How do credits work if you retake a class?

Hey guys I want to transfer to either uc irvine or usc for my junior year. Im currently a freshman i messed up in one of my classes. its quite possible i could end up with a d , but most likely it will be a c-. If i retake the class during sophomore year, would the credits stack? What i mean is would i still get 3 credits for the c- and 3 credits during my sophomore year? Because for uc irvine you need 60 credits by the time you reach junior year. This would mean i would most likely have to take an extra course if the credits do not stack.

You would only get 3 credits I believe because its only one 3 credit course. Retaking a course doesn’t make it a new course, unless the UCs have a werid policy.

does that mean im going to have to take 18 credits fall semester in order to finish with 60? do you think 6 classes in one semester is doable?

my classes would be:
anthropology 151
geog 101-class im repeating :frowning:
Political science 110
greek roman mythology
eng 271 -american literature after 1900s
Hawaiian studies

I guess, or you could take a class in the summer.

Six classes should be fine, as long as you don’t work too many hours each week and are willing to spend less time socializing that semester. I took four math / physics / chem classes this semester, and I work 30+ hours each week, but I’m going to be finishing all of the classes with A’s. However, I’ve hung out with my friends a total of like twice this entire semester, so you will definitely have to cut back in that area of your life.

thanks guys for the advice! Well im finishing my freshman year with 31 credits. So if i just take an extra elective for both fall and spring semester during sophomore year, ill finish with 60.

so fall semester ill take 13 credits(since the repeat course doesnt count as credit) and for the spring ill end up with 16.
