....below average financial standing?

Now it's not something I'm proud of and try to keep it from most people, but hey if it helps me get to my dream school i'll pull at that thread. My only question is where to demonstrate it; is there a 'financial situation' section in applications or is that something that should be mentioned in in your essay?

May be a basic question but its my first time applying to a US school (transfer from Canada) and I'm clueless about the process which surprisingly is a lot different from here.

I was thinking the same thing. Its a good idea to say you grew up in a difficult situation, which can excuse you for a less than stellar application (especially ECs), but if the schools are need-blind, and you and I would essentially saying that we will need financial aid, we are less likely to be admitted because the school won't want to pay for a lot of aid.

Well I can pay for myself. My mom always planned a second mortgage should I get into a great college god bless her. But I was just wondering where to mention it; you keep reading about some schools favoring first-gens that have had a harsh life but knowing where to mention it would be a start lol.

if a school is need blind there is nowhere to mention it, otherwise they see when u apply for aid i think

If you qualify for a fee waiver, the admissions people will see it and it could send a message to them.
