How do/did you organize your shower stuff?

Especially for those of you who had to share a community bathroom. Did you use a shower caddie? If so, do you recommend the mesh ones or the plastic ones? Do a lot of people carry them around? Also are bathrobes necessary? I'm not sure whether I should get one or not. Basically, I could use any tips on how to deal with community bathrooms.

Thanks!

Edit: I'm a girl haha :P

Most people use shower caddies. As long as there are holes for drainage, the type doesn’t matter.

If you are a guy, just wrap your towel around your waist. Anything else would appear out of place.

Edit: Since you are a girl, I would not advise wrapping your towel around your waist.

My D uses a plastic bucket with holes for her shower supplies, which she replenishes as needed from the mass quantities we buy for her at Costco. She has ultralarge towels but does use a light bathrobe as well. She has always been in co-ed dorms but her first year, the floors were single sex and the second year, there were separate male-female wings. One thing that’s a real necessity is shower shoes of some sort.

a lot of people use shower caddies or something simmillar. Since your a girl I don’t know how to answer that question as much. A big towel or robe? I guess it can also depend on what the open hours policy are. At my university (I am a guy) girls are not allowed on the floor in the morning, so most of the guys either walk back with just a towel or underwear.

You’ll definitely need a shower caddy, robe, and shower shoes (flip flops). I bought a plastic shower caddy/tote at Bed, Bath, & Beyond, it’s like $5, or Target has them too in pretty colors.

It depends on the college where you’ll keep that shower caddy. I’d guess, most likely in your room and then just carry it to the bathroom and back in the morning. At my college, at least for the freshman dorm I’m in, it looks like everyone just sets their shower caddy on a shelf back by the showers and leaves it there. That’s at least what I saw them do the 3 times I’ve visited, so I’m assuming my floor this year will do that too. It’s easier than having to carry it in all the time, and if you know and can trust everyone on your floor not to take your stuff, I’m fine with just leaving it in there and not having to deal with it otherwise. Plus, we actually have small lockers in the bathroom to keep other stuff :)

"Edit: Since you are a girl, I would not advise wrapping your towel around your waist. "

Good god man…what is the matter with you? Of course you should be recommending that.

^Even without you two having to mention that, I’m sure the OP knows where the towel should go/what it should cover!

our norms are the opposite in russia though

Shower Caddies can be a GREAT friend!

I honestly just carry my shampoo, conditioner and body bottles to the shower. It’s really not difficult at all; I never really understood why people spend money on shower caddies.

^People buy a shower caddy to organize all their stuff. I think it’s more of a girl thing, since we tend to have more of that shower stuff, and bathroom, personal stuff in general.

That’s fine if you like to just carry that stuff to the shower, but some people don’t want to and just want to pick up that one thing and go.

And they’re not expensive. I got one for $5 at BBB, or they’re $4 at Target.

This is so random, but where can you put your toothbrush in your room? Do you brush you teeth in the shower?

Does hot water run out in the dorms?

Depends, to be completely honest. One year I carried the stuff, and last year I used a caddy.

I say it depends on amount of stuff. I have a ton of shaving gels and various after shaves/pre shaves that I can’t carry around.

But I would agree. If you have shampoo and wash, then a caddy is unnecessary.

I keep mine in a plastic toothbrush holder, which is just a sectioned tube with a few holes on each end. Just rinse and dry it periodically so no mold grows. Afterwards I put it in my shower bag.

High volume times it might, depends on how many people are using the shower, how long it takes for the water to reach you from where the heaters are located, as well as the size of the heaters, outside temp and how well the pipes are insolated.

Re: Hot water running out. I used to turn my shower to maximum hot and then leave it run full blast for an hour while I did something on my computer. I came back and it was still bloody freaking hot. Given that no one takes showers that hot, I figure I was using the hot water equivalent of about 6 people on top of everyone else who might have been showering.

I got a cheap shower caddy from Target. It’s plastic and has holes to drain and was only $3. I was just gonna use it so I wouldn’t forget anything because even at home I make multiple trips back to me bedroom for something I forgot (I keep it with me as to not clutter the bathroom or to not have some dillweed use it).

But, now that I found out I’m living in a suite with its own bathroom instead of a communal (thank you sweet baby Jesus!), I might as well just take it since I already bought it. Eh, it can’t hurt and it doesn’t take up much space. I may just end up using it to store hair and facial products.

Uhhh why would you do that? That’s a pretty huge waste of water…

I have a black canvas shower tote that my grandma got me for a mission trip.

I have a little plastic basket which I’m putting all of my shampoo/body wash in for the shower. I’ll probably head over there wrapped in a towel with a clean pair of boxers to put on after I’m done. For after-shower grooming I have a toiletry bag in which I’ll put my toothbrush, razor, etc. I’ll just walk back to my room in boxers.

I’m a guy, fyi.

I used a cheap plastic basket, and carried my towel. Shaving stuff I kept in a leather bag. My only gripe about the basket was that the shampoo bottles got wet and over time soap residue got on the bottom. It was kind of nasty.

Thankfully I have a bathroom that will be used by four people this year, so I don’t have to carry stuff around.
