How do EC's work at your school?

Out of curiosity, how do officers get assigned in the various clubs at your school? Does the student body elect them? Do teachers assign them?

I go to a hick school.

These “officer” positions you speak of do not exist.

It depends. The clubs that were founded by students and are largely run by students (meaning that the teacher adviser really serves only to provide the classroom in which to meet) usually administer student elections, while the competitive clubs with coaches or pseudo-coaches (like DECA or SO) generally are assigned officers by the coach. But that makes sense, because the president/captain of, say, debate has to actually get stuff done, whereas other clubs can essentially create their own agenda (read: just eat at every meeting).

Here, it can be both. For example, in both NHS and Art Honors Society, we elected the various officers, but for Yearbook and Literary Magazine, my teachers basically told me that I was the Editor/Treasurer/etc. =)

Students nominate others/themselves for positions, then students vote on who gets the position. However, these rules are sometimes bent for efficiency’s sake, and are unofficial in most cases.
