How do employers view a D?

I got a D in my EE class. It's possible to retake the course and have the new grade replace the D so it won't affect my gpa. I really felt like I could have gotten at least a B, had I decided not to completely shut off my brain for the duration of the semester (didn't turn in half homework, half labs, didn't take any quizzes, B+ average for midterms and B for final).

So if I were to get a B in the same class, the D doesn't factor in my GPA, but it still shows up on my transcript. Am I ****ed for life because of this grade? Or will employers overlook such a grade if I manage to pull at least a B when I retake it. My second lowest grade ever is a B

Thanks for the help, time to face my parents.

You'll be fine. Employers don't employ a cutoff like grad schools.

I got a D, too, but in my Econ class. I just had an interview with a company adn the guy looked at it and said, "I hated Econ too!"

I guess it depends on who is looking at it and what their background is...

And yes I got the job, even with the D. I'm an junior EE major as well.

Employers look at your transcript?

Oh yes. I had 5 interviews, 40 minutes each. All of them had a copy of my official transcript. This is for an internship position.

5 interviews at the same company? or different? I've worked at 3 different organizations and the only one that asked for a copy of my transcript was a state agency. The only reason they needed it was to verify that I had the minimum GPA, because it's the government and they need everything in writing.

5 interviews in one day with the same company, 5 different people.

No...as long as your GPA isn't total *e, you are not * for life.

Yes employers most definitely do look at your grades. For the most part, one D won't mess you up. As long as your other grades are in order. ;)

Only a minority of potential employers looked at my grades.

at my school we are only allowed to graduate with two D's

so id be more worried about how my university looks at D's rather than employers...

You should retake to get a better grade.

No need to retake unless you have the room in your senior year.

I've had a few interviews and nobody has ever asked for a transcript. Just my in-major GPA and overall GPA. Even if they do as long as everything else is ok it shouldn't hurt you terribly for getting your first job and it won't matter at all by your second job.

Your GPA will matter for your graduate school, should you decide to attend one.
