<p>We didn’t use grades at all. I’d have a chat with the kids or review their work to see if they understand what they were doing. Sometimes they would be so excited by what they were doing that they would spend a fair amount of time explaining what they discovered to me.</p>
<p>Kids took college courses starting at 15 so they did get used to grading systems then.</p>
<p>On the transcript, I put grades for anything with outside support - community college courses, self-study where he took a SAT Subject test, something where he got a letter of recommendation for his work. For everything else on the transcript, I gave an “S”.</p>
<p>I may not be the most reliable source, but just my two cents - in my case (and I’ve gotten to know several others who work the same way), parents allocate grades and percentages just like in a regular b&m school. At the start of the course they decide on how I will be graded (tests, projects etc) and basically it’s pretty much the same as regular school :)</p>
