How do high school students get all of these great research opportunities?

I always hear about students getting involved with big-time research and internships and going abroad for these things. I've never had anything like that made available to me,the closest was a people to people student ambassador thing. I've tried researching, but there never seems to be anything that fits my situation.

try ur career center or ur guidance counselor at school. otherwise, you might want to look up these thing online by urself.

I think the easiest way is if you have a decent research university within a manageable car ride away. Most professors there are willing to sponsor a high school student (or at least let them work there for free) in their labs. The best way to go about it would be e-mail professors you're interested in working for. Tell them what you like about the work, what's interesting, and what you'd like to try and do over the summer.

If you're living somewhere without a good college near you, it's significantly more difficult. =/
