How do HSU students feel about Humboldt?

Hello all,

This is my first post on CC and I'm looking for some insight into life as an HSU student. I'm currently torn between which college I should transfer to. I currently am accepted to HSU and UC Davis and am awaiting a response from UCBerkeley but I am pretty sure I don't want to go there (the city of Berkeley is disgusting and theres way too many undergrads). I am majoring in environmental science and I've visited both Davis and Humboldt and I loved them both, with the edge going to Humboldt because I love the redwoods :) So, I'd like to hear from some HSU students. How do you like Humboldt? How is the community and the students? Is it a safe place to live? Are there opportunities for research in the sciences? Are there hands on, outdoor labs? Off campus activities (internships, dinners with professors, clubs)? Are the academics challenging? I am a hard working student with a 3.8 GPA and although I'm not huge on partying I would definitely like the opportunity to party if I wanted to, so how is the party scene? And last but not least, how are the woman? I've definitely heard that humboldt hunny comment a few times already lol. So yea, thanks to anyone who can provide some input! I really appreciate it!

I’m not a student yet (I just accepted my admission…yay!), but from what I’ve heard HSU is a really great school.

HSU is really focused on environmental sciences. There’s a marine lab 1/2 hour north that students go to a lot. And I know that the classes take a lot of field trips.

I’m from Humboldt county, and I’ll be the first to admit that there’s not much going on here. There’s farmer’s markets in the summer (the one in Arcata is really fun) and there’s a lot of community-centered events, but there’s no night life here. Be warned. Humboldt is very laid back. I know that a lot of people associate Humboldt with pot, but there’s so much more to us. There are some stoners, but our culture isn’t dominated by them.

When ever I visited the campus, I found that there was a lot of very attractive people there (men and women).

I don’t know much about UC Berkeley, but I really like HSU!
