I went to the workstudy site but I can't figure it out!

Talk to your financial aid office people. They should make best effort to help you.

They are only hiring for summer now. You have to wait for september to see jobs for the fall.

Do i need to apply for fafsa before I can work on campus?

I think you have to be approved for work-study for FA in order to get a job. Maybe there are other jobs that are not work-study.

some jobs do not require work-study. but employers will pick the ones that do have work-study over the ones who dont, even though the job does not explicitly require it.

I have work-study. Will it be hard to find a job if I don't do it right when the quarter starts? I was hoping to put it off for a few weeks until I get the feel of my class schedule. I don't want to take on a job and then be pressed for time to study.

How did you get workstudy! I won't have a car so I want to work on campus.

Depends how picky you are with what you want, and what your skills are. Start looking at the work study postings a week or two before the quarter starts. Line up the ones you like, so you can call right away if you find a good match.

Don't email - - some don't reply back or take a very long time.

You may find a job on work study anytime. Keep in mind some positions only hire a few students. Once they're going, you won't be considered. I would say most people get hired for a work study position at the 2nd-3rd week after the quarter starts.

You have to be financially qualified.

i'm a bit confused about how to get work-study.... can somebody explain the full process??? i have to financial aid, did not apply for FAFSA, but hoping to get a job in the medical center/school of medicine or lab/research

good luck getting a med center/SOM job without work-study. it's typically harder to find a job for them unless you do have work-study; most times, they will post on the ucla work-study bulletin first.

you have to file a FAFSA in order for UCLA's financial aid office to grant you work-study funds. employers here love work-study, as the federal govt. pays for half of your wages, while the department you're working for covers the rest.

you a pre-med? there's always just volunteering. for me, volunteering eventually turned into work-study with my research group.

i'm not pre-med but thinking about going into a medical-related field such as pharmacology or pharmacy. if i really do become a pharmacist i'd prefer to work in a hospital setting. so, if i work in the SOM/med center i'll get a feel for what its like to work in a hospital setting.

but i still haven't totally excluded the possibility of becoming a pre-med.
