I am currently just one point away from achieving an A- in my math class. Percentage wise, this is an 89.2 but it’s still numerically only one point away. I also want to note that throughout the whole semester I was able to maintain an A- until a little 10 point quiz, which brought me down and now I’m one point away. I understand that this was the grade I earned but getting this A- was so important to me, so I worked significantly harder. The reason it was so important is because getting it would give me a good chance of getting an A- as my final average. Without it, my chances of improving my final grade are pretty much out the window.
How do I ask my teacher for a grade bump? Do I email him or talk to him in person? What do I say? I don’t want him to hate me after asking him.
Is this for a quarter grade? If so, only semester grades show up on transcripts. Right? I ask because both of my kids have been in similar situations. They were able to have a higher grade in the following quarter and brought their semester grade to an A.
That said, I would definitely have a one on one with the teacher. IMHO, it shows more desire and seriousness about your willingness to work harder. I’m not sure what you should say. What’s your relationship with the teacher? I hope you’ve had prior conversations with him. I cannot imagine a teacher hating you for wanting to do better. Be humble, be honest.
@cardinal2020mom I know for my school only final grades are shown on our transcripts.
I agree that you’d should ask them face to face, one on one, at a time when he is not busy. I’d phrase it as , “I was really hoping to get X grade. Is there anything else I can do to help pull up my grade?” This shows that you are willing to work. If they say no, respect it. Thank them for their time and don’t keep asking.
It’s nowhere near the end of the semester, right? Couldn’t you get an A- by getting an A on the final exam?
Oops I apologize - I meant quarter, not semester
