How do I ask for a recommendation?

I want to apply for this program and it says I need to get a recommendation from my teacher and guidance counselor. However, the program doesn't have a form for me to print out for my teacher/guidance counselor to fill out and write stuff in. How do I go about asking them for a recommendation?

Bump, someone help me out please.

You just have to go up to the teacher’s or counselor you want to write a recommendation and ask them. It’s a simple “Sorry to bother you, but I am applying for this program, and I was wondering if you could write me a recommendation letter?”

They’ll probably ask you about the program, to know how to accommodate the letter in order to make you look like a fit for the program. Sometimes, in my school, the teacher/GC will ask for a “brag sheet”. Just a list of any EC you have done, with leadership positions, sometimes if you are a AP scholar, ect.

Good luck!

Most high school teachers know how to draft a general letter of recommendation, and many will know what to write for specific programs. Just ask the teacher you need to, and if they ask how just explain your situation. Good luck!

I had to get one for Nurse Camp. Basically I just said, “Madame Stanley, would you like to write a recommendation letter for me?” She agreed, and took a while, but eventually gave it to me on my school’s fancy letterhead (every school should have one–it makes it official). You could also fill out a generic biographical data sheet and give it to your teacher for reference, but it’s not really needed.

Oh and definitely mention what the program is. And if the title’s vague, explain it. She wrote about how my interest in a medical career is not surprising, etc.

I honestly just want to have the experience, though. And the certificate. I don’t want to end up working anywhere near hospitals or medicine. Lul.

Okay, thanks guys for your help!
