How Do I Calculate My GPA?

Just curious on how to calculate my college gpa. Say I got a 2.8 first semester, then a 4.0 and soph year first semester I get a 4.0. Is the way gpa calculated the same for most schools, and if so can i get the formula?

hold on are - and + given different weights???

I think most colleges only count major courses i.e. English, Social Studies, Science, Math, Foreign Language in determining GPA. An A is a 4.0, B is a 3.0 and you can do the + and - calculations as well. Colleges do not use your weighted average as there is such a wide variety in the way in which classes are weighted. They do however look at course difficulty.

It depends on if your school gives grades that are B- and B+, etc. Mine doesn't, so we don't use + and - in determining GPA. Some schools do though. Like a B+ would be 3.3 or something and a B- would be about 2.7. Basically, you just add them all up and divide by the number of classes.

If you do the +/-'s calculation, just keep in mind that an A+ is still a 4.0... not a 4.3.

It really depends on the school. Some schools do give a 4.33 for an A+.

it's a weighted average based on credits. A 3 credit class weighs on your GPA 3 times as much as a 1 credit class.
