How do I cancel enrollment?

So i enrolled in UMD , paid the deposit and everything.. but then i got into my topchoice school off the waitlist and now i'm going there but i'm not sure how to cancel my enrollment at UMD? if anyone can help me i would really appreciate it, thank you!

I’m pretty sure that you wont get your deposit back. On top of that I think once you pay its like a contract saying you will attend, at least some schools do that. You should probably call them and tell them you will be attending another university. Tell them to cancel your enrollment and ask if it would be possible to get your deposit back. I would just tell them nicely and the truth that you where excepted to your dream college. Thank them for everything and for excepting you. Even if you are not going to attend they spent time reviewing your stuff and making a financial aid package for you.

Congrats on getting into your top choice

i didn’t apply for financial aid, but thank you for the advice. i’ll call tomorrow

Schools expect “summer melt” when admitted students who paid their deposits will get into schools that have waitlisted them.

99.9% that you will not get back your deposit.

Call admissions and/ or check to see if you can decline admission here after making a deposit – https://was-4.umd.edu/lm/secure/adm_login.asp?forward=https://www.sis.umd.edu/admissions/AdmitEnrollConf

@000595000,

Did you sign up for R&B? If you did you should call Reslife to cancel. I think you can get that $ back until July 1st …

thanks ! i called and they said i couldnt get my deposit back but i would have to cancel enrollment by sending them an e-mail

your question helped ME a lot!

So you didn’t have to pay $400 to cancel? I heard that somewhere

Like plumazul said, even though your email “should” be enough, if you have confirmed your request for housing, send a separate email to ResLife to let them know as well…
