How do i cite medical issues that lowered my grade?

Hello all, how would I cite a chronic disease that prevented me from attending school and led to a lower grade in more cumulative subjects?
As a kid and a lot recently ive been having episodes that lead to me missing a lot of school, I easily bounce back in most subjects except math because its severely cumulative. How would I cite my medical issues causes in an application, and do you think colleges would except it?

Note: not sure where to post this, so double posted

At least for colleges that use the common app, the common app has a section titled Additional Information where they state: “Please provide an answer below if you wish to provide details of circumstances or qualifications not reflected in the application.” I assume this is where it would go, but your college counselor should also probably make note of it in his/her recommendation.

As far as colleges accepting it, I’m sure at the very least they will be sympathetic to your circumstances and understand the reason, to a certain extent, behind why your grades might have dropped. I don’t think anyone can tell you with any certainty just how they will respond to it though.

I think you should concentrate more on what you’ve done to overcome this problem. In an essay, you could say you have XXX and it causes you to miss school, which you haven’t found to be a problem except in math. To overcome this, you have done ____ (tutoring, Khan academy, taken extra classes). I don’t think just stating that you haven’t learned math because you have an illness is a good application strategy. Schools don’t want to know that you are not ready for college in any subject

Medical issues are best dealt with by the GC. Have a talk with them and let them explain it to the best of their abilities. You trying to explain it just looks like excuse making, even if it isn’t. Your part of the Common App, including the essays, should be a positive sell about why you should be selected - not why an exception should be made for you.

@MrMom62‌ How would i contact the GC? As well as what is the GC, sorry im not very active in these forums except for giving and getting advice, Thanks for the reply!

GC stands for your school guidance counselor.

Your GC (or college counselor) will fill in part of the Common App for you - it’s your third reccomendation letter. They can cover a lot of ground there that you probably shouldn’t.
