How do I conquer the CR section?

I'm quite good with passage reading, I don't get more than 4 or 5 wrong in the entire test, but I pretty much **ck up the sentence completion part.
I just started doing some tests. I've done 5 from the blue book, and my scores always vary between 600-650.
Just to be clear, I haven't studied any other books or read lists of words. Any advice? Did any of you succeed by reading lots and lots of words? I just can't seem to really get into reading lists of words. It seems really really boring. I haven't seen much improvement in my scores, even after doing 5 tests, so I was thinking maybe it was time I got some strategies from you guys. I score basically the same points each time, and I was wondering how much of a help reading words would be.
Also, will a CR score of 650 affect my chances of getting into a top university? (I score a 750-800 on Math each time, but mostly 800, and in the writing section, I do not get more than 2 or 3 wrong)
Also, I'm an international student and English is not my first language.

Get some vocabulary books. Consensus on CC is that Direct Hit Volume 1 & 2 are great books on vocab.

Other than that, read more articles from economist or newyorker and jolt down every words you don’t know and keep reviewing the words.

One or two months should be suffice.

Just a sidenote, sentence completion is pretty much about vocabs, the transition words on the test are limited and the syntax is straightforward. 19/19 is not impossible, but you have to strive for it!!
