How do I decline my acceptance to IU?

I got accepted into IU a few weeks ago, and I was certain that I was going there. So, I already submitted my enrollment and housing deposits (IU gave me a waiver for both) and received my financial aid award of about $14,000. So, I thought that by me having won a lot of scholarships, that I’ll be able to take at least 4 courses. (I’m out of state). However, a few days ago, I received a letter from the financial aid office at IU saying that I need to pay the remaining amount of $33,970 before I can start the 2017-2018 academic year. The thing is, I don’t have that money and my scholarships won’t cover that. So, how do I decline my acceptance of I’m already enrolled? Also, I was waitlisted for James Madison University (which is in my state) and I won’t know if I was accepted or not until late May/early June. So, I should decline my acceptance to IU, right?

Im not sure i get the numbers. Run through it on here. You generally only pay 1 semester at a time, and 1/2 your aid goes toward each. There is no way one semester AFTER scholarships/FA is 33k.

It is 44k billed by the school per year for OOS, so 22/semester. with $7k in FA, thats down to $15k. what were your scholarships? @Jrgib98

I won a scholarship for $4,000 for four years, and one for $1,000 non renewable. The letter I got in the mail said that I couldn’t attend until I pay the full price. I too thought that I had to pay per semester and not the beginning of the school year. Anyway, I received $14,420 in financial aid from IU, which means the remaining price would be about $33,000 since I’m an out of state student. I only get $7,210 a semester, and it costs me about $12,000 to take at least four credits.

call them!

I did, and I still will not be able to afford the tuition. So, how do I decline my acceptance after I’ve been enrolled?

That is not right. You are a upcoming freshman, right?
