How do I fight procrastination?

Procrastination is an issue that has plagued my life since the beginning of high school. I constantly get carried away from doing homework or projects until the last minute.

Do any of you guys have any effective methods for fighting procrastination? I'd be interested in hearing some of your thoughts.

I used to set small rewards aside for myself in order to finish my work…

After I realized that almost everything I do will only serve to benefit me in the end though, procrastination seemed to fade away.

You really can’t beat it. It’ll always be with you.

In all sincerity, it’s just something you need to learn how to outwit.

Want to spend your Monday night doing nothing? Fine. Do it! But make your Monday morning a bit more productive. Get up an hour earlier to finish your reading, practice your Spanish vocab with your classmates at lunch, write down paper ideas during drag time in class; spend each moment during the typical school day (7-3ish) like you’re procrastinating for things. Squeeze in time for things that are due next week and treat them like they were due yesterday; get rid of all due dates in your head and just view it as “NEED TO GET DONE NOW.”

If you do this, your homework load will go down immensely, and you might just come out ahead.

FWIW, I struggle with procrastination in college and can’t always practice what I preach. Just this year I’ve gotten buried too deep for comfort more often than necessary. But when I step it up and get my act together, I can have relatively peaceful weeknights. (though Sunday will always and forever be everyone’s designated homework day)

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I’m going to start trying that. I like the idea of “procrastinating” for things to get them done earlier.

i’m right there with ya

i literally finished an apes lab during study hall. i spent most of the pd making stupid tables, graphs, etc. and then for the last five minutes, i wrote an abstract, analysis, and conclusion. LOL the sad thing is, i’m probably still gonna get an a, or at least b. it’s so easy to bs when you know what the teachers look for. it just encourages me.

but advice: think about how nice it will be to sleep at a reasonable hour, and to not have to chronically worry about schoolwork you haven’t done. also, you should probably get off cc
