Hello all. I’m applying to boarding schools as a repeat sophomore. I’m poor, a trans guy, and from Indiana. I have a 3.9 GPA, a 1420 SAT (am taking SSAT in November) and good-ish ECs. Right now, I have Loomis Chaffee, Concord, Choate, Hotchkiss, Exeter, and Andover on my list. I am aware these schools are all very difficult to get into, so I need to find a safety school- except I don’t know of any “safe” boarding schools with my stats. How should I go about picking a safety?
My two cents: you have a great chance at your current reach/target schools. Perhaps consider Mercersburg, Kent, NMH and St. Mark’s. Not safeties per se, but you should do very well.
@Boarding2019 Thank you! I actually was looking at Kent and Mercersburg- maybe I’ll do some more research and add them back.
The fact that you need FA also makes a “match” less of sure thing in spite of your good stats. I would definitely expand that list and think about putting schools like Westtown and George and Peddie in the mix.
@gardenstategal Will do! Thank you
NOT a safety school, but have you considered St. Andrew’s School in Delaware? It is such an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming community.
@CaliMex I have not, but I will definitely look into it! I have heard very nice things about it
Peddie, The Hill, Blair, Brooks.
@snapchat I interviewed at Brooks and submitted a profile for Blair, so I should just finish those lol
@CavsFan2003 yes! its better to cast your net and possibly have a wide variety of options than having little to no options on march 10. also, if you have any questions about ca, pm me! i am a freshman boarder.
Have you considered George School in PA? It explicitly welcomes transgender students and values diversity. Scroll down a few stories to read their transgender policy.
