How do I find out the textbooks my classes use?

I have a question about the textbook.
im taking math 3b and have

Neuhauser (New Low Price)
Calculus F/ Biol & Med (2nd) Pkg W/rev Ssm

as one of books to buy. is this a solution manual and would i need this?

and is this
Neuhauser
Sm Calculus F/ Biol & Medicine (2nd) Rev

a review book? i heard from my friend that u don’t need a review book. is this true?
btw anyone who took math 3b willing to sell his books to me, unless the edition changed? :)

i know this is stupid, but i’m inclined to change math 3b to 31b cause textbook prices are much cheaper and available online for 31b:'(

anyone know if there’s a significant difference btwn stewart’s multivariable calc 5th edition vs 6th edition?? (for math32A)

so for UCLA Custom books, are we at a disadvanatge if we purchase a regular version?

At my orientation they said they are lowering prices this year and will do price matching for any lower prices we can find elsewhere. Is this for real?

Signed, Skeptical.

Price match what? The lowest prices on the net are those sold through peer to peer transactions and e-commerce mediums (amazon, eBay).

If they are matching prices on textbook bookstores, then the prices won’t change by much.

question: when I look up my textbooks, all it gives are registration and term numbers. There is supposed to be more, right? Like titles, version numbers, etc? Does this mean they just aren’t available yet? Any idea when they might be posted…?

thanks :)

I’m not sure about that, BH. They made it sound so amazing and unprecedented, I got a little excited, then doubtful.

I agree with Boelter, there has to be restrictions to price matching.

With the price match guarantee, ASUCLA will match the price of any major vendor or bookstore’s price on the textbook if a student brings proof of the cost, Rogel said.

Specifics of the guarantee have not been worked out, but Rogel said that books bought from Web sites like Craigslist or eBay would not be included.
I’m guess that means Amazon Marketplace and Half don’t count either.

Of course Amazon and Half don’t count. Can you expect to tell your friend to sell the book you need for $0.01 on Half and then except UCLA to match that?

Of course they (whoever it may be. … hopefully not OCs) have a promising attitude. Look up any bookstore and compare prices. Bookstores sell books at the manufacturing price. The only way a major bookstore would sell a book for less than that price is through pricedrops, special offers, or coupons. Near to never will there be a 25%+ discrepancy in the bookstore price and the retail price. Maybe 5-10% is more reasonable, which is better than nothing.

But if you’re into saving money in the first place, you would purchase from net transfers and not at a bookstore. :)

Hmm, when will all the textbooks be posted by the bookstore? Most of my classes still aren’t showing any required textbooks (they’re film classes if that influences anything…).

Is it better to order the textbooks that are available now, and to order the textbooks that haven’t come out yet later? Or should I simply wait for all my textbooks to come out and then order them all at once? I’m worried about prices going up and books gradually selling out…

Oh btw, are there some classes that don’t have any books? For example, the discussion classes for Chem 14A and Math 3A; the fiat lux seminars; DESMA 10? Thanks.

Discussion classes generally don’t have books because your lecture will have that covered. And some fiat lux seminars have required reading, others don’t and will provided in class (i assume…)

I have two books that have a New Price listing of “new N/A.” Does this mean I can only buy them used? HMT has a LOT of books for one quarter! (Cheap ones, fortunately.)

You want my old HMT course reader? It’s from last year, and it was nonrefundable, unfortch for me. I dropped HMT in week 2, best decision evarrr

My Calculus book was “new N/A” for a while and then after like 3 weeks they came up with a price. I think it’s just too early in the inventory for them to know the price. Check back in a few weeks…
