I got a 2250 on my SAT (which still wasn't good enough for my parents by the way) but my GPA is mediocre because I just haven't had any motivation during high school. I want to go into medicine so I know I have to change my lazy ways in college.

I always tell myself I'm gonna study but I end up being distracted by something else or the feeling of wanting to do nothing overtakes me. Right now I tried to practice ACT reading but I read one passage and just quit without even doing the questions because of how unmotivated I am.

I don't know what it is, but it seems as if when I try to study I either get on the Internet and do something stupid or I just sit there worrying about my future.

How can I motivate myself to stop being such a lazy bum? Thanks.

^Actually a good suggestion. Also, you could ask someone who could help you be accountable (like a parent) and check up on you every once in a while to make sure that you’re doing work. It’s just one of those “fake it 'til you make it” things; even if you are unmotivated, you have to will yourself to study by reminding yourself about how important it will be later in your life.

Are you unmotivated for all subjects or just boring ones? Does this lack of motivation also cover other areas of your life? I struggled with being unmotivated for a few years; turns out, it was depression, so that’s something to consider too.

Here’s my way of overcoming lack of motivation and general apathy:
Make a schedule that factors meals, breaks, studies, and excercise.
Follow it accordingly. MAKE NO EXCEPTIONS
Be sure to study subjects you consider interesting. I reading bores you, gradually read more each day. Again, read what you consider interesting at first. This greatly increases motivation.

Actually, just find what you want. Do you want anything? Then find what you need to reach that goal. Say I want a shiny Ferrari. Then I’d start working towards that Ferrari, working as hard as possible, because that Ferrari would be so cool, etc.
