I'm really intrigued by the Hospitality program at UNLV (Las Vegas) and its close proximity to large resorts etc. I've been interested in the school for a long time, but not sure if its realistic for me for financial reasons... I checked the net price calc for it, and although the UNLV calculator hasn't been updated since 2010, it says I would get about 10,000 in aid, still leaving quite a bit to pay. I'm in California, with a 3.2 GPA. Does anyone think its possible for me to go there at all? I was thinking about going to a community college for first two years then transferring to save money? Or is it out of question? Suggestions?

@caliX1 Community college in Vegas or in California? If your talking about Vegas, God help your soul because CSN(the only community college here) is TERRIBLE. CSN is mixed in with a high school making it seem exactly life high school. Some of my friends who have left my school have gone to CSN to attend their high school/college program and complain about how much worse it is than the traditional public high school they came from. Have you heard of WUE? Since it seems like your from California based on your user name, you would be eligible for WUE which would make going to UNLV tons cheaper. AS for the hospitality program, I have hear REALLY great things about it from friends I know who have went there after graduation. With your gpa it’s hard to tell if you would get in or not without seeing your SAT scores. If your sat scores are average or higher then your for sure in, but if your SAT score is like a combines score of 900 or something then I would
say you might have a harder time getting in. Your probably fine though. I only know admission for UNLV being instate which is having above a 3.0 or graduating with an advanced honors diploma= auto acceptance. I hope I helped! If youe have any more questions let me know! Best of luck! :)

UNLV: Aim for 1650+/23+

@lyricjohnson No haha never CSN! I was talking about a CC in California and then transferring to UNLV after two years to save money. Not really worried about getting in as a freshman since I know I won’t be able to afford it right off the bat. Which was why I was asking if it would be hard to transfer there from a CC in Cali?

@Catria thanks for the test tips! already took SAT, get my score in a few weeks!

I live in Las Vegas, so it makes wrapping my mind around why someone would want to go to UNLV extremely difficult. But, the Hospitality program there is remarkable, considering we are one of the biggest tourist spots in the world! Your GPA looks fine, and as long as your standardized test scores are above average, you should definitely be admitted!
The hospitality program also offers many internships at the hotels and casinos here.
There are many scholarships that are offered for that major, as well, making the financial part much easier. Hope I helped even a little bit! Also, if you wouldn’t mind, could you chance me too? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1476104-am-i-headed-right-direction.html Thank you :)
