How do i get in?

hey im an 11th grader in NY
i have about an 89 gpa
1900 SAT's first time ( i might take them again)
100+ hrs. of community service
im in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), Student Government, played piano for 8 years, and i might do a research program at a National Lab in the summer,
do you think i can get into to NYU?

oh, and does it increase your chances to apply ED?

Acceptance rates are generally higher for ED, but ED is more selective. RD is less selective but more competitive. But for NYU, I don’t think you should apply ED unless you have the money for it. NYU has horrible FA. You may be thinking that you don’t care about the price and that you can take out loans, but that opinion may change later on. I was like that at first, but now I know that I don’t want to graduate with over $100k in debt.

You definitely should bring up your GPA and your SATs could be a few hundred points higher, but they’re not bad.

But there are several other factors that admissions officers take into consideration like your rank, the competitiveness of your school, the difficulty of your courses, how well written your essay is, etc.

If you can do the research program this summer, then do it. It can only help your app. Good luck!

what gpa and SAT scores would you suggest, that is sufficent?
also im taking 2 AP courses and 1 college level course this year, and will be taking at least 2 more AP’s next year

yea i was relying on taking out loans, i know i will be in debt after i graduate, but that was a sacrifice i was willing to take

with those stats would you suggest ED or RD,

and are there any other schools of NYU’s caliber relatively close to NY with better FA?

thnx

I was waitlisted with a 3.4 GPA, almost no honors/AP’s, 5 C’s on my transcript and a 29 ACT.

Anything is possible.

*** LMAO, ok thnx

anybody else?

which school r u applying to?

Doesn’t sound like you have much of a chance to me.

I’m assuming you’re applying to Stern since you’re part of FBLA. Because your stats aren’t thaaat great, I’d suggest applying RD. While more people apply RD, I’ve noticed that those who apply ED have AMAZING stats, so RD would probably be better. However, don’t just take advice from me. Ask your guidance counselor! They’re there to guide you, after all :D

If you’re applying for Stern you’ll want the highest grades possible. Try for a 2100+ for your SAT, and even take the ACT (some people get better scores on the ACT than they do on the SAT). Don’t forget to take SAT IIs!! As for your GPA, you definitely should get that up. I’d suggest mid-90s at least (unweighted).

If you can, take 3+ AP classes. You don’t want colleges to think you’re slacking off senior year!

Make sure you show that you’re passionate about the things you do. You don’t want to come off as a mindless drone who does everything for the college application. You can really convey your passions in your essay. The essay is a very important component to your app because it allows admissions officers to see you as a person, not just a test score.

Seriously, I had the SAME exact attitude that you have right now. I thought that I didn’t care, that I’d give up anything for NYU. But when you think about all the debt that you’d have to pay back, plus the interest on the loans, plus grad school, well…it’s a bit daunting. If you’re going into Stern then the debt is probably worth it, but if not, I would advise against it.

As for any other schools, it really depends on what you want to study. If you’re going into business, I’m pretty sure UMich and Carnegie Mellon are good. Several kids in my school who are into business are going there, so I’m assuming those schools have top business programs. As for the FA at those schools, I’m not sure how it is. The people I know who are going to those schools are rich, so they probably don’t even fill out the FAFSA, lol.

o yea srry, i was talking about stern

im talking the SAT’s again in june so hopefully i can do better then

and yea NYU just an option not a must for me, ill consider other schools ,thnx =)

Definitely bring up that GPA and SAT (try the ACT, maybe it’ll be better for you. It was for me.), and try to possibly gain a leadership position for your senior year. That research program sounds great, I would definitely do it if it interest you.

your grades are low for stern. if you just want nyu and not stern, you have a much better chance in getting into nyu cas than stern

Commentcomment, I heard that it’s better to just apply for the school you’re interested in because transferring within NYU is difficult (not sure if this is true though). Besides, dobe’s EC’s reflect business, so it’s obvious that his true interests lie in Stern and not CAS. I do have to agree though. It’s more likely that dobe will be admitted CAS rather than Stern since Stern is crazy hard to get into.

Dobe, remember to explore your options. Don’t put everything into NYU. I talked to my friends who are into business and they said that UMich and Carnegie Mellon are really good for business as well. And definitely get leadership in at least one of your ECs. If you can, start your own club (something that interests you, of course. Don’t start something just to look good).

hey thnx, ill consider all of this, youve been a lot of help
