I’m assuming you’re applying to Stern since you’re part of FBLA. Because your stats aren’t thaaat great, I’d suggest applying RD. While more people apply RD, I’ve noticed that those who apply ED have AMAZING stats, so RD would probably be better. However, don’t just take advice from me. Ask your guidance counselor! They’re there to guide you, after all :D

If you’re applying for Stern you’ll want the highest grades possible. Try for a 2100+ for your SAT, and even take the ACT (some people get better scores on the ACT than they do on the SAT). Don’t forget to take SAT IIs!! As for your GPA, you definitely should get that up. I’d suggest mid-90s at least (unweighted).

If you can, take 3+ AP classes. You don’t want colleges to think you’re slacking off senior year!

Make sure you show that you’re passionate about the things you do. You don’t want to come off as a mindless drone who does everything for the college application. You can really convey your passions in your essay. The essay is a very important component to your app because it allows admissions officers to see you as a person, not just a test score.

Seriously, I had the SAME exact attitude that you have right now. I thought that I didn’t care, that I’d give up anything for NYU. But when you think about all the debt that you’d have to pay back, plus the interest on the loans, plus grad school, well…it’s a bit daunting. If you’re going into Stern then the debt is probably worth it, but if not, I would advise against it.

As for any other schools, it really depends on what you want to study. If you’re going into business, I’m pretty sure UMich and Carnegie Mellon are good. Several kids in my school who are into business are going there, so I’m assuming those schools have top business programs. As for the FA at those schools, I’m not sure how it is. The people I know who are going to those schools are rich, so they probably don’t even fill out the FAFSA, lol.
