Hello,

I recently, as the November SAT Subject tests are constantly getting nearer, keep getting more and more nervous. I believe I have prepared well for both Math Level 1 and Biology, but I still have this thought that I'm going to mess up, or that I'm going to do badly on the test. I keep thinking that I will not be able to answer much at all.
I don't want to go into this exam feeling like this because it will surely interfere with my thoughts during the exam. I am hoping to get above 600 for both, but I'm still scared. What are some tips that will help me calm down? I don't know how to transition from this type of mentality.

Please help.

The best thing to do is to not treat the main test as a BIG test that is going to decide your fate in life. Treat the test as any other practice test. You give your 100% in practice tests, right? Treating the main exam as THE BIG EXAM just makes things worse and makes you feel nervous.
Know that you did what you could do. Even if you do not score very good, it’s not the end of the world. Standardized tests are not the only thing adcoms see.

Good luck! :)

Just talking about your feelings with people who share them can help. Maybe find or create a support group at your school. – I am aware it might be too late to get that off the ground in time.

For you personally, progressive muscle relaxation is a proven method to calm down and you can start it right away. I recommend doing it every day from now until the test, and even the morning before the test if you can find the time. Check out YouTube for videos that walk you through the steps. You literally lie in your bed, play the video, and follow the instructions. You only need to listen – there’s nothing to watch. The videos tend to be similar, but you might find one you like better than the others.

Thanks for your replies.

EDIT: Your suggestions really helped me calm down.

So, I’ve just finished doing a Barron’s 13th Edition Biology E/M Practice Test for Biology E, and I got:

63 Correct
17 Wrong

I think that makes my overall score a 59? I believe I’d do better on the molecular section though, so say I get 64 correct after deducting the 1/4th points because I wouldn’t be answering all the questions on the actual test, what would my score be then?

So is 59 a bad score? When I read the Barron’s Score Chart, it showed that a 59 was a 700. Is that the true curve? I don’t know what to feel about this 59…

Chill out. The Barron’s Biology book has a serious information overload, so a low 700 should translate into a high 700 (740-750+).
Watch plenty of Adam Sandler movies.
Even the bad ones (except Jack and Jill, avoid that one at all costs!!!)

Thanks for the tip :D. Adam Sandler is one of my favorite actors :)

So, I’ve calmed down a little. Um, I heard that one should not study the day before the test, is that true?

If I got a 600 or above in Bio and Math, I would cry tears of joy xD.

I’m probably going to watch Happy Gilmore, it was a classic.

EDIT: Also, is it possible for someone to correct their sleeping schedule, I sleep at 3 AM constantly D:

Good :)

A brief revision would be okay before the test, but no hardcore studying. Maybe 20-30 minutes.

You will, don’t worry!

The Longest Yard was awesome too

I have no clue, try doing something stressful so that you’ll get tired.

Thanks DarkEclipse, you’re really kind. :)

Though, something else is bothering me as well D: I had a bad practice test today should I let it get to me? It was a horrible score, D: It’s been depressing me.

I’m sorry about all these worrying messages. This will be the last one! I tend to stress a lot I’m a horrible test-taker.

Never let anything get to you. That will pass quickly. Just chill, study lightly, and try again, you’ll be fine. You’ll see
You’re not the only one out there, the number of anxious test takers is phenomenal!

Thank you so much :D. You’re extremely kind. I needed to hear those words from someone. I’ll just try my best :D.

I’ll let you know on Saturday how I did. Hopefully, you see me scream out of happiness :D. I’ll post on this thread on Saturday, after the exam.

Exactly. You’re best is always enough.
I’ll be waiting Go ace that test! Good luck!

Hey, I finished the SAT Subject Tests, and I think I did well! Thank you for supporting me. You really helped me

What did you think of Math 1? Some questions were hard.

Hello again :D. So I got my scores back, and I got a:

Biology E: 780
Mathematics level 1: 730
Mathematics level 2: 590(Not submitting)

I guess it went well, except for mathematics level 2. Thanks for everyone’s support.

780! Great job! You M1 score is amazing too!
Chill out, unless you’re going for Engineering or Mathematics, M2 won’t really matter. Besides M1 has a much harsher curve.
Best of luck for your future endeavors :)
