Simply put, how do I move all my stuff from my room to a college that may well be halfway across the United States? Do I hire a moving company? Bring it in on the plane? Drive it myself?

I assume the process would be a bit easier if I were to go to a college closer to New York (as I well may). In this case, would the general process be the same?

It sounds like a simple question, but it's surely important, and I haven't heard it discussed anywhere.

For Big stuff (Beds, dressers), most of that is supplied by the college anyway and anything extra you need: buy at a discount store.

For Books, Computer and Other Supplies: Pack what you can into your luggage. Buy the rest at a discount store. I suggest getting a “Balikbayan” box…look it up, they’re cheap ways to pack lots of stuff into a box which still qualifies as “luggage” and not a “package,” although it might as well be.

In case you haven’t noticed, buying at discount stores is probably a better idea. For your irreplaceable s, such as clothing, bring it. But a pencil and pad of paper is irreplaceable…
