Which bus routes do I take, where do I get on and off, etc.?

Safeway - take the 51B from Telegraph x Durant/just outside Unit 1/somewhere along College Ave and get off at “College and Alcatraz”

Trader Joe’s is three stops after that (I have no idea what that intersection is called)

There’s also Sam’s Market which is just beside Walgreens on Telegraph

Berkeley Bowl is very very nice for fresh produce, but if you don’t want to walk (~20/25 minutes), then it involves taking a bus down to Shattuck (51B/1/49/I know I’m forgetting something) and then taking the 18 which is more trouble than walking.

Yep, 51B gets you to Safeway and Trader Joe’s. The 49 counterclockwise does the same and actually drops you off right on the side of Safeway–closer than 51, and then turns back onto college to Trader Joe’s.

here’s a tip, if you take the 51B to Safeway though, you have to walk from the store to the stop which is annoying when you have 50 lbs of cans in each arm.

if youre like me and shop rarely and stock up for the whole semester, get them to double bag!!! i cant tell you how many times Ive tried to walk from the stop to my apt only to have the bags rip open and have all my shiz roll out embarassingly in front of a group of people, lol. and they always give me dirty looks like im a pig for having that much food lol even though its for like 6 months hahaha.

bring your own bags. save the environment, this is Berkeley.

I don’t see how being in Berkeley would mean that you should do any more or less to save the environment that you normally would.

I generally just take my empty spare backpack that is sitting in my closet, it saves bags to just put everything in my backpack

yeah. i get plastic but i reuse them as trash bags too. so i end up not wasting them really.

@Liquidus. You’re right, it shouldn’t. But the fact is that people still aren’t as aware as they should be. However, being in Berkeley helps bring that awareness up.

@W4C. Same, so yeah…

wow thanks guys!

Milk crate + bike = all your grocery shopping needs! It’ll easily hold two of those large reusable bags in the back, if not a little more.
