I'll do that this summer then. How is life there.

There is a cadet blog you can read that has some information about life at the academy. It is located at Daily Blog by US Air Force Academy Cadet you can read about what it is like to be a 4 dig (freshman) at USAFA

I'd like to thank everyone for the great information that yall have given me and I hope I'll be seeing some of you in 2 years. I will use this information to the best of my ability. If anyone has anymore information on the process please feel free to fill me in.

Make sure to use this forum - and the other service academy forums - a lot; they're a real help. Also, it's a good idea to do a search on the forum since a lot of the past threads have helpful information.

and make sure to look at the academy website. Many questions can be answered there.

Everyones a ton of help Thanks!

Whens the best time to attend the summer seminar, the summer before my junior year or before my senior year.

You can only attend the summer before your senior year, the program is for rising seniors.

Ok how hard was it to get a nomination from a representative, cause I live in Georgia but I dont know how competative it is.

Well, I don't live in a very competitive state (at least I don't think Oregon is very competitive) but generally if you are an outstanding candidate (and it looks like you are so far) you should have no trouble getting a nomination. I think it is easier to get a nomination than to get an appointment.

Whats the hardest part about getting the appointment.

It's hard to tell. I'd say academics because it counts for 60 percent of your admissions file. Then again the AFA looks for the whole person concept. I know people who have been accepted into the academy with GPAs lower than 3.0. The key to the appointment is drive. If deep down inside you want this then you fight for it. There will be times where you think you can't make it or want to give up. This should make you stronger. Eventually, the admissions boared will see this drive inside you. Remeber, the Academy dosen't want to spend money on someone who dosen't want to be there. They will wash out before BCT ends. To be a well rounded person, excel in three areas. Academics, Athetics, and Leadership. All in that order. As I said, there can be different situations for different people. For one the harderst part of getting an appoitment might be the medical process, another might be the congressional nominations, another might be the SATs. Excel in your strenths and work on your weaknesses.

Will a personal pilots liscence help too.

It's a great extracurricular activity because it shows an interest in flying (the AFs primary mission) but I don't believe it will give you an advantage over anyone else.

If you are in CAP will that help out a lot or can you still get by with other leadership positions in and out of school

CAP can be good if that's what you're into. It's not necessarily better than other leadership positions. Just make sure you don't brag about it in front of others, especially cadets, because that's a quick way to get a bad rep.

Yea thats what i heard. My dad either said that I could try to do CAP or get my pilots liscense and I would rather get my pilots liscense

From yalls experience which is better or does it make that much difference.

Pilots Licensce is cool but it won't get you in alone. It will count as part of the whole person concept.

Im going to try to get that and get involved with a lot of organizations in my school.
