I am taking the SAT this November, so its only about 2 weeks away from now on. I really want to improve my CR score. Its always around 500. Is there really anyway I can bring it upto 700 or if not atleast 650. Is there anyway?

My math scores are usually above 750 and the writing hovers around late 600s and early 700s.

Did u take the psat? How did u feel about that cr? I personally thought it was impossible. Where r u from?

Hi, rohanrulesall - I wrote a critical reading guide a few years ago and it could help you boost your score significantly. I started with a 60 on the PSAT CR in sophomore year and I got an 800 on the SAT CR fall of junior year after practice. Hopefully this guide helps you out. Good luck!

My worst part is sentence completion. I have heard from my acquaintances that they didn’t do much vocabulary for the CR. They scored around 700. Is there anyway I can try pushing my score up…

@apoc I have seen your guide before. It does indicate to memorise vocabulary. Do I have time for that, considering that I am taking the test on nov 2?

When I learned vocabulary, I basically would study the vocabulary that came up in the sentence completion questions in the blue book tests. I didn’t buy flashcards or try to study Barron’s huge list of vocabulary words. I think you have time to make sure you know the vocab words in the Official SAT Study Guide (blue book). That’s all that I did for the vocab section (sometimes a little luck is required and you find yourself knowing most of the words they test you on during the real thing).

So you say memorizing the ‘blue book’ words is possible to do within a week? I am confused…

I advise just practicing the critical reading section sentence completions so you gain more familiarity with the vocabulary words given as options. After each practice test I would review the sentence completion vocabulary choices and gain familiarity with the context they were used in and their definitions. The main thing that helped me learn vocabulary was being able to compare and contrast vocabulary words because there will be opposites and even if you don’t know the vocabulary word that is the answer, knowing other options will help you narrow it down.

Got it. Thank you!
