Okay, so there are certain EC's that I do (Debate, and Math Competiiton Club) where usually I just spend 1-2 hours per week on meetings, but on those weekends that I have competitions, it's about 12 hours per weekend. How do I figure out what to put on the hours spent section of my application? Do I put 1 hour, or 12?

1) Count the number of school year weeks and multiply by 1.5.
2) Count the number of tournament weekends and multiply by 12.
3) Add these numbers together, then divide by the number of weeks in the school year.

Admissions officers are very familiar with this type of estimating.

Just do the average hours per week. Total hours divided by total number of weeks.

I was in a similar situation and wrote 1-12 and then explain on a brag sheet (additional list of activities with descriptions). If it was an online app that limited the numbers i used, I just wrote 3 or something and then explained on the brag sheet and possibly on that list if there was a line for a description
