I would like to join an Honor Society for my major (Industrial Engineering) at my university but I can find little to no information on how to do that. I have looked at the requirements on the Alpha Pi Mu page and I meet all of them, so why have I not been invited? How do I go about trying to join?
I believe you get an invitation, based on your grades.
You don’t “join,” you “are invited.” If you believe you meet the requirements, the appropriate thing to do is contact the professor who is the advisor for the group (if you can’t find that information, go to the department chair) and show them the documentation that you meet the requirements. Are you sure your school has a chapter?
Yes, you generally have to be invited. It varies from honor society to honor society, but your school usually must have a chapter. Occasionally there are provisions that allow you to join a chapter at a nearby school if your school does not have a chapter. National sets minimum requirements for membership, and your schools chapter can have additional requirements on top of the minimum requirements. Some honor societies send out eligibility emails to those that meet some core requirements and you have to apply, and it’s competitive to get in.
