How do I know if I can handle 4 AP classes before the school year starts ?

It hasn’t even been 2 full weeks since school has ended and I’m already stressing out about junior year. I forecasted for 4 AP classes (AP Chem, AP Lang., AP United States History, and AP Calc AB). The reason I forecasted for these tough APs is because I wanted to take the opportunities presented at my HS (take the AP class rather than the regular one i.e. AP Chem rather than regular chemistry). At my school you do not need to take regular chemistry in order to take AP Chemistry.
I was wondering how do I know I can handle/if I can handle taking 4 (tough) AP classes before I even take them ? I took a look at my AP scores from this past school year and I was really disappointed :frowning:

If you did NOT take 2 AP classes last year, AND do well in them, then you are asking for trouble if you try to tackle 4 AP classes next year.
IF you have NOT taken an intro Chem class, regardless of what is allowed, you will have a really tough time doing well in that difficult AP class. Dont push it. Listen to your gut.
Take 2 next year. IF you get great grades in them then
you can consider taking more your Sr year.
IT IS A FALLACY THAT STUDENTS WHO HAVE TAKEN THE MOST AP CLASSES WIN.
6 APs TOTAL is PLENTY rigorous for colleges.

AP Chem, AP Lang., AP United States History, and AP Calc AB

It seems like this course schedule is just op much. You have APUSH which is really a lot of reading. Then you have AP Chem seeing this makes me wonder. Have you taken honors or regular chemistry before? If not then this course will be a lot of time consuming. AP Lang, not sure about it. AP Calc is a nightmare if you aren’t good in math.

What is your recourse at this point? It’s surely too late to change anything about your schedule (except for dropping classes altogether). I would try to line up quality student or professional tutors in the 2 classes you’re most concerned about. Also, try to outline the first 2-4 chapters of your APUSH and Chem books so you have a psychological edge going into the school year.

Does your school require summer assignments for entry into the AP classes?

if you have never taken chemistry consider strongly taking Honors Chem instead of AP chem…these are all pretty rigorous classes.

Have you already taken BOTH pre-calc and trigonometry and gotten an A in both of them while feeling that they were pretty easy? If so, then AP Calculus should be fine. If not, then definitely more AP calculus to your senior year (or at least out of your junior year).

Yes, my school has summer assignments. I have a summer assignment for AP Chem,APUSH, and AP Lang.
