How do I know if I made EECS?

I applied to the EECS and on my acceptance letter it says that I got into the College of Engineering. How do I find the details about my major? Thanks.

I think once you’re in the College of Engineering, you’ll just declare you major (after some time - a year?).

^I do not think that is true.

everyone gets in undeclared but to the college which offers their major [in your case College of Engineering], you will declare as soon as you finish your major prereqs or after the first semester.

actually, since etennis12 applied to EECS and got into Berkeley, he should be in EECS already(which is in CoE).

Can we get a consensus??

You are in EECS already, as long as you are sure that you applied to EECS.

In the College of Engineering, you are admitted to the major, unless you specifically applied to Engineering Undeclared.

EECS major here.

If you applied as EECS and go into the College of Engineering, you’re already an EECS major. Congratulations!

Wait for CalSO. Hope you’ll survive your first semester and graduate as EECS. Good luck!

For those new to Cal, it may be confusing to read about entering undeclared. Cal is a university with several different undergraduate colleges and schools.

The parts of Cal that offer undergraduate degrees are:

College of Engineering - the engineering degrees are offered here, with a BS.

College of Natural Resources - nature oriented, with BS degrees

College of Chemistry - just what its name implies, grants BS degrees

Haas School of Business - BS degree in business

College of Letters and Sciences - the largest, where most majors are hosted, gives BA. Most students attend here.

Computer Science is available either as a CoE degree (BS) or as a L&S degree (BA)

Chemistry is available as an L&S degree (BA) or a CoC degree (BS)

There are other joint majors - Environmental Science for example, either CNR or L&S degree.

The School of Social Welfare does not grant undergrad degrees but educates undergrads through an L&S major (BA degree).

The colleges provide four years of instruction for undergrads, only one of the schools offers undergraduate degrees - Haas School of Business – but they only offer the upper two years thus students must apply to enter Haas when they have junior standing.

Because most students apply to majors offered at L&S, they enter under the L&S rules which are that all students come in as undeclared and have a chance to choose which major they want after taking some classes and learning more about what they like. Typically you declare about halfway through, as you enter junior standing.

A few majors are capped which means that even if you meet the requirements to declare that major as a junior, you might not be accepted. They are: Haas school of business, Practice of Art, Public Health, Social Welfare, Operations Research and Management, Psychology, Economics, Environmental Economics, and Media Studies. Most are guaranteed if you take care of the pre-reqs.

The other colleges mostly admit to specific majors, but some offer an undeclared option as an exception. CNR and CoE offer this, while CoC and Haas do not.

Note that you cannot be admitted as a freshman into the business major. All prospective business major freshmen must complete the prerequisites while enrolled in another division (usually L&S, but can be some other) and then apply to the business major.
