How do I know what HS classes are considered core?

In our magnet program, there are a lot of extra STEM classes - some of which aren’t offered at other schools but required here; and some that are electives. When determining core only gpa, what classes should be counted?

Also, is there a list of colleges that recalculate gpa for UW core classes only?

Is it only Math, science, social studies and English? Thanks.

Foreign language is also considered a core subject.

And foreign language.

Unless the university specifies otherwise, non-core would be, as examples, art, music, theatre, PE, driver’s Ed, auto shop, religion.

Electives beyond graduation requirements in core departments are still considered core. STEAM courses outside a core department, e.g. PLTW, are still core

How a college recalculates, or if they recalculates, varies by college, and few are transparent. Many simply take the GPA on your transcript. Since you can do nothing about it, file it under “it is what it is.”

Art, music, and theatre are considered core academics by some colleges (e.g. California public universities).
