So I’m junior, but my dad has recently said he’s going to work towards making sure I graduate this year. With this, I was pushed into the world of college applications with very little prior knowledge about it.
Anyway, I went to fill out my CommonApp and was wondering: how do I know when I’ve completed it? I put in an essay into CommonApp jusr as a placeholder, but past that I was pretty much able to fill everything out easily in an hour. I stopped when it brought me to this page where it listed my colleges of choice and stated that some had some additional questions for me and asked if I wanted to submit my application.
Is that seriously it? I remember hearing something about having to write essays for each college I would sign up for. Was it true or am I seriously that clueless. Can someone give me some kind of pointers because I am very lost.
Make sure you’re answering all the college specific questions under each school in the “My Colleges” tab. That’s where you’ll find the additional essays and important questions for each school. You shouldn’t be able to submit your application until you answer them and pay the application fee.
Most schools that have a writing supplement will separate this from the main Common Application: so while you’ll be able to submit your general Common Application (extracurricular list, major choice, personal statement etc,) you’ll also need to submit the writing supplement separately (only after you submit the main common app for the school and pay your application fee, as @izrk02 says.)
After that, most colleges will send you a link to their applicant portal within a few days (once most portals open in late September,) that will include a checklist of requirements and include separate forms to scholarship applications, interview requests etc. if applicable. Then, it’s waiting time, so make sure you do something fun during that time, whether it’s gardening or playing video games!
