How do I line up? Please give opinion

I'm a high school junior, and I'm interested in UMichigan.
My GPA in my freshman year was UW 3.38/W 3.82, and sophomore year 3.7/4.33.

Classes I took:

As a Freshman - Honors Biology, H. French 2, College World cultures (no honors available), H. English 1, H. Algebra 2 (moved down to college halfway through the year), trumpet in Band and Jazz band
I did the winter and spring plays and had 11 hours of community service

As a Sophomore - College Quantitative Chemistry (like an honors class), Honors Old World/New World History, H. French 3, C. Geometry, H. English 2, Honors Jazz Ensemble, Honors Wind ensemble, and Full orchestra
I did the fall musical, was on the mock trial team in the winter, played JV volleyball in the spring (am playing varsity next year), played taps on memorial and veterans day, was on student council and had 42 hours of community service

Classes this year - AP US History, H. Classical literature, C. Precalculus, C. Physics, H. French 4, H. Wind Ensemble, H. Jazz Ensemble and Full Orchestra
Same ec's as last year

Classes senior year - AP Calc AB, AP french, AP english or h. medieval lit, h. psych, h. wind ensemble, full orchestra, h. jazz ensemble or AP comp sci (haven't decided yet)
Dropping a science b/c thats my worst subject

I've been going to german school every saturday for the past 10 years and I speak it fluently

This summer I did a 16 day community service project in france, got 350 hours of community service for it, and am doing an independent study on it this year

I was recommended for, then interviewed, then got picked as one of 2 kids in my grade and went for the RYLA conference this past year (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), which was a 3 day leadership seminar sponsored by the rotary club

I'm like top 20%-top 15% in my 220 person class

SAT II's
Math 1: 690 (maybe not sending in)
Bio: 630 (def. not sending in)
German: 750

AP tests
German: 5

PSAT's
M: 670
W: 720
CR: 600
Combined: 1990

Sorry I know that was a mouthful, but for those of you out-of-staters who got in (I'm from Massachusetts) how do your stats line up/do you think I have a chance. My freshman year wasn't that great but starting last year I really applied myself and hope to continue like that.

Food for thought - what about UWashington, Middlebury, UCLA, UNC Chapel Hill, UMaryland, UC San Diego, Colby, Boston College, UVA, William and Mary, Wesleyan, Colgate or Mcgill

Thanks so much for reading this

Well if you get a say 3.8 this year and get a 2000 on your SAT, based on the fact that you are an out of state student, Michigan is a stretch for you. I have to say even for an in-state student that would be a little bit of a reach. But say that you are able to improve that SAT score to 2150-2200 and maybe get a few more 740+ on your SAT II get a 3.9+ GPA for your junior and first half of your senior year and keep up what you’ve been doing with EC, you should be able to get into Michigan. I don’t particularly like your chances of being an early admit but I think that you should at the very least be able to be admitted after being deferred. The problem with your gpa is that it is low, about 3.55 (don’t count your weighted because Michigan has its own system that will recalculate it despite what it says on the website) and a 3.8 junior year will only get it up to 3.64, and for an out of state student, that is not nearly enough. But if you get a 3.9 junior year and a 4.0 for the first semester senior year, your gpa will be about 3.71, along with an upward trend, that should be enough to get you at least a waitlist admit, assuming that you have an above (Michigan) average SAT score (aim for the top 25 percent of admitted Michigan students) that makes up for your bad gpa, solid SAT II scores, good extracurriculars (you’re on the right path) and good recommendations. Michigan looks mostly at your GPA and test scores, everything else is not so important if you have very strong numbers but because your numbers are rather weak, it makes excellence in the other areas imperative. I’m sorry if I do seem harsh right here and rather pessimistic about your chances as a junior but the reality of the situation is that as an out of state applicant, you are held to much more rigorous standards than in state students, so judgment must similarly be held to an higher standard. Additionally, if I judge you as optimistically as I can, I do you no favors because while it may make you feel good, it ultimately hurts your chances at Michigan. You hurt your chances quite a bit by doing so poorly as a freshman but all is not lost, you have that upward trend and you clearly have good leadership potential. So as long as you can improve your numbers, you have a decent shot at being accepted into Michigan.

As for your other schools I can only judge on UNC, UVA and UCLA. All of them are stretches similar to Michigan. Again, you are an out of state student and will have to apply what I recommended to Michigan to those schools to have a decent shot at being admitted. I have friends who were admitted and rejected from those schools. The one who was admitted to UVA went on a baseball scholarship so it is unnecessary to discuss him. But one who was admitted to UCLA and UVA had a 3.96 gpa (UW), 35 ACT, brilliant essays, won a national award in violin and was strong in extracurriculars. Another person I know was rejected from UNC had a 3.91 gpa, 33 ACT, great essays, but was not particularly remarkable with extracurriculars, very average there. And all of these people are out of state.

I wish you the best of luck through the next two years and hope that you are able to accomplish what you want and are able to reach your goals, whatever they may be.

top 15~20% is gonna hurt a lot, your SATs are below avg for OOS. Definitely try to raise those SAT scores.

UCLA will likely reject you because it rejects alot of OOS who have a stronger profile than you do.

michigan would be a reach/slight reach as well.

match/safe match at UW and ucsd.
Dont really know the admission standards of the rest of your list, so I can’t really comment on those.
