I’m a rising senior. I’ve done 6 internships, multiple summer programs and 10 activities over the past high school years. (I’m being 100% serious here.)
How do I list of all of this in the Common App? There’s only space for 10 activities/internships/summer activities. Can I, for example, write ‘Internships (6)’ or ‘Six Internships’ as a title under the activities section and then just list all the internships with a quick description?
Doesn’t Harvard have its own application as well, maybe use that?
Also can you make a resume or list of EC activitied and email to the school? Have you talked to the regional admissions rep in your area and asked them?
So you have done internships since you were 14?
You could just list the most recent ones or most relevant to your major.
List your extracurricular activities/internships/summer activities under the EC section of the Common Application. When you run out of space, list the rest under the ADDITIONAL INFORMATION section.
@gibby so I can’t just write “Internships” as 1 of the 10 extracurricular/activities, and then list all my 6 internships underneath that 1 section? On the common app it does say that you can group the internships/activities so…
^^ You can, but think carefully about what you want to accomplish with your EC list.
Under the Extracurricular Activity section, the Common Application allows you to add a short (~12 word) description for each activity to elaborate more on what you did or what you accomplished.
If you did NOT do anything impressive at the 6 places you interned, it would be to your advantage to group them together as “Internships” so you don’t have to write something embarrassing or inane like “sharpened pencils for the Dixon Ticonderoga company for 10 weeks” or “Stock boy intern for Walmart for 8 weeks.”
However, if you actually did something impressive at each company, you lose the opportunity to elaborate more about what you accomplished or did at each internship if group them together.
