I do not mean to discourage you, but do not assume that you will get 2300+ before taking the SAT even once. Cracking 2300 is not easy at all, and these scores cannot be predicted accurately.
Again, not discouraging you, you might as well manage it, but don’t assume so arbitrarily.

Getting 2300+ means getting at most 2 or 3 questions wrong in the entire test.

Its tough to get it but not impossible. I have a 2390 myself.

Besides 69% is absolutely awful especially for CBSE. You should probably work on that more than the SAT for now.

80% is also not that good for CBSE but dont let me discourage you from applying at all.

You say you need aid but Im sure you wont get any at the public schools like Berkeley and Purdue.

idledevil, jackrabbit420,
I took 2-3 mock tests and got 2350+ each time. So, i’m aiming that high. :)

My subject record in school was never good in subjects other than english and computer. So, i’m not at all sad about that 89% or 69%.
Basiclly, i never mugged up so i never got good marks.
Still, the 69% was atleast better than the class averge (52%). So, most probably my counsellor will explain that in his rec. I’m from one of the most competitive schools from bihar. My school fails each and every student in 11th to prepare them for boards. :(

For the aid part, i am applying to those schools as safety.

You stand a good chance at Stanford. Pretty good ECs. Your only downfall are your HS grades, which WILL harm you. Try to up that grade in 11th while you still have time.
Good luck !

I wouldn’t say your 69% is awful. Schools are tough on students in 11th, and some schools more than others. But yes, it is not a great score, and many people will have better scores than you do. Again, though your 9th and 10th grades are in no way bad, other applicants will have higher grades.

  1. Work very hard in school now, try to up your score in 11th annuals and 12th half-yearlies.
  2. Work very hard on your standardized tests. Don’t underestimate their difficulty, devote enough time for prep. They will provide you a chance to show the adcoms that you are a smart student despite your slightly low grades.
3.You seem to have impressive ECs. Build on them further and make sure your passion for them comes through in your application.

@jackrabbit you posted that you have a 1860 on another thread titled “Should I take SAT or SAT II or ACT with writing?”

^I was about to point out.

IdleDevil, I like your Username. :stuck_out_tongue:
Btw Thankx a looooooooooooot for the advice.
But the main problem lies with my school. It wont give good grades. Aaap hi btao, mera school IIT level ke question 11th me deata hai. Kahan se no. aayega. :(

Thankx Mrinal2207. :)

Haha, thanks Code.
I get your pain. But you have a year, use it wisely and productively. I started looking into the application process very late and procrastinated a LOT (hence my username :stuck_out_tongue: ) and I’m suffering a lot right now for that. So I encourage you to start everything early. And tip: Utilise your summer vacations FULLY. Do everything you can in those two months. Once 12th Std starts, everything turns into a big messy mess.
Best luck!

Thats what Indian education system is all about.
12th means IIT for parents and teachers. :P

And i forgot to add sone stuff.

Vice president, another student organisation
Participant, Robo-cup (IIT-K)
Chief php programmer, an internet venture of some IITans.
Self learnt HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP in 9th grade.
Made a social networking website in 10th grade.
Have been covered by multiple media ventures for the same.
President, School entreprenurs club

^that would be all. :P

*some.
Ishh. Ishpelling mishtakes. :D

@codeguy… when you have got those kind of percentages in last four years of study… like 69 and 80… I must say… nothing is going to supplement that fact…

Besides, Indian pool is a cut-throat pool… students from pretty preppy high school are going to apply… Almost all of them will have close to that 94-99 percentage of marks… High school transcripts are the most important part of apps… and your aforementioned percentage take the wind out of your sails completely…

It is time someone told you straightforward, without diplomacy, that it is going to be an uphill battle. Remember, SAT doesn’t mean a nix if your transcripts don’t relate… So, be realistic in your expectations…

Especially, your schools list is over-ambitious… Ask anyone who knows both about CBSE and American College admissions… He/She will suggest you what I have suggested you…

Rest is your wish… Good Luck.

Sorry for late reply
Great chance…your ECs are great but grades really weak. But still u need to work on ur essays as there be many applicants who will have ECs as strong as you…try to get 80+ that should be achievable

I recommend applying somewhere like Iowa state or university of kansas. I read that they are actively looking for foreigners. Your chances are very slim for any of the colleges you’ve listed. You have bad grades, an overload of ECs, and you need aid. All in all a bad combination of things especially from a cutthroat nation like India. I’m sure you’ll get into a lower tier college though. Good luck!

JacobsWannabe,
Well, what else can i say. Thanks for your honest but discouraging comment.

Bleach240, thanks for sugarcoating jacob’s comment.

Collstu, thanks dude. :)
