How do I look for Dartmouth?

<p>I just signed up for this site, so it I'm posting in the wrong place or something...</p>

<p>SAT stuff:
I've got a 720 Math 620 Writing 680 Verbal, but I didn't study; I just walked in. It'll go way up.
I'm taking the SAT II tests for Physics and Chemistry, I should get around 800 for both.</p>

<p>For AP stuff:
I'm going to get a five for all of my AP tests that I'm taking at least my Junior year, not trying to sound overconfident, I've easily gotten those scores on my Mid-Years.</p>

<p>Ok, my grades for Sophomore and Junior year are:
Biology- B+
Chemistry H- A
IMP 2- B+
Humanities (English) H- B-
Childhood and Lit. (English) H- B
Spanish III H- B-
Learning Center- B</p>

<p>Junior year:
AP Calculus AB- Not certain yet.
AP Chemistry- B+
AP Physics B- Not certain yet.
AP Physics C- Not certain yet.
Math III H- A
Dark Lit. H- B+
Creative Writing H- Not certain yet.
Learning Center- A
Astronomy H- A
World History H- A
Ind. Study in Modern Physics (1/2 credit) A</p>

<p>Extracurricular stuff:
I'm the founder and president of the Committee for Self-Defense.
I was on the Science Bowl Team at my school, which is an incredibly selective group of five students which compete in the National Science Bowl. We made it to state this year. I'll be the captain of the Science Bowl Team and the school's Science Team next year.
I am on a cherity comittee which raises money for various organizaions in the Boston area.
I teach underprivileged youths Karate for two hours a week, every week, for three years.
I am a third-degree brown belt in Karate and a blue belt in Jujitsu.
I tutor six Freshman in Physics for two hours, every week.
I tutor a Sophomore with learning disabilities(ADHD) in Chemistry for two hours, every week.
I tutor a Junior in Biology for one hour, every week.
I tutor grade-school students at a local elementary school in math for one hour, every week.
I am a member of my school's Yoga committee.
I am a member of my school's Committee for Social Justice.</p>

<p>Summer stuff:
Last summer I did an internship in a BioTech lab in Thailand, along with a bunch of MIT students. I learned some Thai and a lot about scientific processes. The lab is owned by the Princess of Thailand; I will be able to get a letter of recommendation from one of the most respected members of the lab's faculty.</p>

<p>This summer I'll be doing an internship at Lincoln Labs at MIT, which is pretty well known.
I'll also be learning Differential Equations and Multivariable Calculus.</p>

<p>Other stuff:
Next year I'll be taking:
AP Calculus BC
AP US History
AP Physics C (Again for lab credit)
AP Stat.
AP Biology (Either that or History of Scientific Thought H)
English course H
English course H
Learning Center
Latin I H
Multivariable Calculus
Linear Algebra</p>

<p>Outside of school my Senior year:
Differential Equations
Intro to Quantum Physics (At either MIT or another program)
Wave Mechanics</p>

<p>I do a bunch of self studying, and I show an extreme interest in Particle Physics that I cannot adiquitely disceibe here, just take it for granted that I will be able to wow the Dartmouth people on the interest front.</p>

<p>My sister graduated from Dartmouth in '06, she'll give $2000 to the College when I apply.</p>

<p>I know the deposed PM of Thailand personally?</p>

<p>I'm really just mentioning anything that I think will help.</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>Ha well if thats getting done, of course you’re a shoo in.</p>

<p>Since you have 9 B’s already, your unweighted GPA may be too low. Your class rank will need to be top 10%, at least. And you will have to improve your SAT I, as well as have 3excellent SAT IIs. Until you actually have the scores, you cannot assume they will occur.</p>

<p>ECs really do not show state or regional level honors. </p>

<p>And the $2K donation will not have much of an effect. (Add 3 more zeros to make a hook.)</p>

<p>Haha, I can’t even tell if this post is serious or not?
If you’re not a ■■■■■, then you definitely have a shot at Dartmouth. Work on bringing that SAT score up, and it’ll help your chances. Your GPA is decent but not great, so make sure that you do well through your senior year midyear grades.
Good luck.</p>

<p>The fact that you are tutoring kids in physics is unlikely to overcome the fact that you are getting a B- and C-. Your grades and board scores are low; however, your confidence seems to be inexplicably high.</p>

<p>It’s hard to square your mediocre grades with the research you say you’ve done and will do and the advanced math classes you say you will take. I know that often very bright people don’t perform in ways that produce good grades in high school, but usually they have great SATs.</p>

<p>Presenting a coherent picture–perhaps telling the truth?-- will be key, I think.</p>

<p>"Next year I’ll be taking:
AP Calculus BC
AP US History
AP Physics C (Again for lab credit)
AP Stat.
AP Biology (Either that or History of Scientific Thought H)
English course H
English course H
Learning Center

<p>Outside of school my Senior year:

<p>Are you serious??!?!</p>

<p>wow…well that is a senior year schedule if i have ever seen one.</p>

<p>in terms of dartmouth i think it is going to be very difficult to get in. You SATs are on the low end of Dartmouth’s ranges and you have gotten quite a few Bs and Cs. They are drawing from the tippy top of students in country. AKA like tousands of 4.0 students with just as hard schedules and higher scores. You would really need something to have you stand out in that applicant pool.</p>

<p>showing interest in a subject wont get you anywhere if you are just showing interest. For that to have a wow factor you need to do something like intel/seimens comp and win. or be developing things in a lab and publishing papers. Bs and Cs in courses you say you are super interested in isnt going to draw attention</p>

<p>He doesn’t have a B- and C- in Physics. He is taking Physics B and C, followed by a dash (like the formatting he used for all of his other classes) and then “Not certain yet.” So his grades apparently aren’t certain yet.</p>

<p>Also, your sister donating $2,000 won’t make a difference. Tell her to save the cash.</p>

<p>I’m taking AP PHYSICS-C and AP PHYSICS-B!
They are courses, not grades!
I am not getting an AB in Calculus!
I’ll be getting an A in Physics-C, and probably an A in Physics-B; of course nothing is for sure though.</p>

<p>It is AP Physics-C and B, again, I’m most likely going to be getting an A in both.</p>

<p>Not getting a B or a C; I’m taking AP Physics-C and B.
I’ll most likely get an A in both.</p>

<p>Applying as an international is very difficult. Your sister was very fortunate. Mentioning your acquaintance with the former PM is meaningless unless you worked under him closely and he can comment something about your work ethic or academic ability. “Name dropping” is considered rather impolite. Like others said, a $2000 donation is also meaningless. Maybe US$5M.</p>

<p>Best of luck to you</p>
