How do I look right now?

Not sure if I have what it takes for Yale, but this is what I have so far from the top of my head.

Ethnicity: Russian American
Upcoming senior this fall
GPA: 4.0 unweighted
Class rank: 1 or 2 out of 650; the school is a 5A school, meaning the population is around 2,300.
I've taken 1 AP exam, Calculus BC and scored a 5.
I've only taken one AP exam because I participate in an early college program. Have been taking college courses since my Sophomore year of high school and have accumulated at least 46 hours at the local university, again with a 4.0 GPA.

Senior schedule:

Cross-country/track
Speech
AP Biology
AP Chemistry (Not offered at my school so I'm taking it at a different school in my district)
AP Physics (Not offered at my school so I'm taking it at a different school in my district)

College courses I've taken:
College Algebra; Pre-cal; U.S History; Political Science (1 & 2); Economics; 4 English courses; The equivalent of Spanish 3 AP in HS; Statistics; Electrical Physics + Lab.

Not sure what is going to fill up the last 3 spots.

Extra-curricular activities:
Cross-country runner
Varsity track runner - 3 years
Member of NHS - 2 years (have around 50 hours)
Masterminds team - 2 years
Volunteering at the hospital this August (should rack in at least 100 hours)
Part of the GEAR-UP leadership council - 2 years
UIL Mathematics team
UIL Science team
Calculus AB tutor (not a club, just something I do for the benefit of the school)

Awards:
Got 3rd place at the Texas State UIL meet for Mathematics (first to ever place in the event on the state level at my school)
District student of the week
Plentiful of first place wins at the local level in academics (Science, Math, Masterminds)

Scores:
ACT: 30 (Was my first time with no prep. Taking it again in September with prep hoping to score a 33+); Needa work on CR and W
SAT: 1980 (Also my first time with no prep. Very disappointed, but hopefully when I take it on October with prep I'll do a lot better); Needa work on CR and W
SAT Subject tests: Math 2: 800; still need to take one more, which I will in November. Most likely Physics.

Not sure what else there is to add, despite more for the awards and EC's. This was all from the top of my head so I probably left something out. Tell me what you think, and what I should work on these next 6 months. My friend started applying to Yale in December and got in.

If I remember something I'll add it.

Well you probably know that your ACT/SAT is not up to par. Also, while your HS transcript looks great, your ec’s seem like they’re lacking something. I can’t pinpoint it, but I don’t see anything that I would say “Wow, that’s incredible.”

It’s not impossible. Try and improve your SATs (but don’t worry too much about that).

Also, wrightm is right about the ECs. For some reason I can’t see this passion everybody is talking about. Yeah, I know the term is kind of overused and is getting old quickly but it IS something you should think about. If your so called passion can’t be seen from a resume, then do your best to let it shine through your essays and recommendations.

Best of luck!

It’ll shine in my recommendations and essay; I’m sure of it :).

I’m also aware, and have been aware that my SAT and ACT are not on par.

Actually, focusing on the SAT/ACT is probably the most important thing for the OP at this point. Here is some of my advice on that.

I’ve been planning on reading that. I’m saving it for right when I finish my ACT and start preparation for the SAT.

^ The grammar section should help you on the ACT’s English section if you need that.

Would help a lot. Despite the fact that I have very good english skills, it’s very tricky sometimes to spot the more complicated errors in the english section. I’ll definitely look at it.

Get your scores up and you will be in good shape.

I can’t seem to edit my post anymore. I forgot to add that I was part of NHI (National Hispanic Institute), a debate program. Went to debate in the modern oratory event in Austin, Texas and did very well.
