How do I make my application better for regular decision.

I have applied to about 11 schools and most seemed to be within my target, a few were safeties and some reaches. However, it seems like now all of a sudden these schools are all reaches. My GPA UW is a 3.8 and weighted is a 4.3. I'm so confused because I have taken A LOT of challenging classes, have gotten mostly As, occasional Bs, I have almost 600 hours of community service, along with some other activities. I don't understand, I was rejected from Wisconsin, deferred from Tulane, and admitted to Pitt but not even the main campus (admitted to Penn State and Indiana). I'm frustrated because I have worked extremely hard for the past 3 years and none of it has paid off! I am still waiting for my decisions to come in from the other regular decision schools but I am nervous to hear back considering I have been getting mostly bad news. I believe that I am really qualified for these school and I feel like the only problem is my sat score, which was very low especially compared to my grades. I really would like to go to Tulane though and I was deferred so I was wondering what I can do to make my application have better chances during this process.

Well you can message the admissions counselor if your GPA changes significantly between when they reviewed your app and when RD comes out. Just make sure the schools know you are still expressing interest.

What’s your SAT?

Are your test scores bad? Were your essays terrible or generic? Are you a boing school drone?

I have taken 4 AP classes, 10 honors classes, and an advanced art class. I’m currently in a college course as well.
I have done volunteer community service work every summer since 6th grade. I also volunteered for rebuilding new orleans this past summer for 3 weeks.
I did gymnastics for years until I had a serious injury.
I also began an organization to donate stuffed animals to kids dealing with traumatic events.
I am a managing editor for my school yearbook.
I was also a tutor for mentally unstable/ underprivileged kids.
Besides those, I have created/ participated in clubs at my school.
Also, I am receiving an award for my community service work.
My essay was very good and definitely unique and personal.
My school is extremely competitive, it does not do rankings though, so, getting all As and a B or two is very good considering the rigor of the work.
My only set back that I can think of is my SAT score which is below an 1800. I have very bad testing anxiety so I just cannot take tests well.
I don’t understand though, I feel like my qualifications override one 4 hour test. It makes no sense. It’s like they are only looking at the stupid SAT score.

That SAT score sunk your ship. It is the only apples to apples comparison of students. Some people have 4.0s but terrible test scores because they are not actually very smart and have to try really hard to get good grades.

And some people are very smart and not great testers. Do NOT let that previous comment define you. Hard work will always pay off. You don’t have to go to a top or even middle tier school to get into a great Med school, law school, or grad school. Go where you have the best financial deal. Continue to work hard and give back to the community. Do great in undergrad no matter where that ends up being, and don’t let anyone tell you who or what you are. I was in a top tier PhD program surrounded by ivy leaguers, and I came out of a state university with amazing grades and so-so standardized test scores. And remember you can always prove yourself and transfer later.
