My passion is medicine. I am not really interested in anything except medicine. I am a sophomore right now and here are my ECs:

-200 volunteer hours at hospital
-Interned a neurologist (75 hours)
-Research with a doctor (60 hours)
-Founder/President of future doctors of America

I also go to a health science academy so i take extra classes such as Anatomy, Pathophysiology, and medical illustrations.

I want to go to JHU but i need to stand out. I have an understanding that most bio majors that apply to JHU have similar if not better ECs. My only passion is medicine. So my main question is, what can i do that i havnt already done to stand out that is related to medicine.

Can I ask how you got to research with a doctor and intern a neurologist? If you really want to stand out think of yourself as reading your ECs as a story is your story interesting or like others? What kind of research are you doing with the doctor? Is it something that could be entered into competitions? Maybe go to a prestigious med summer program? Sorry thats all I can come up with.

I have some family members that are doctors.

Colleges (even JHU) want to see you explore your world during high school. I understand that you love medicine, but you should try picking up a sport or an instrument (if you already haven’t). Don’t try to please colleges (yeah I know this is cliched but it’s true); try to get to know yourself better.

If you like medicine, you might try to help people in underprivileged nations or those that have suffered from natural disasters. You can try to teach children about hygiene and sanitation, etc.

Be unique. While you may love medicine, being so narrow-minded in a certain field often has its downsides. It’s also good to show leadership.

To be honest I was pretty impressed with what you have listed already (but then again, I’m pretty new to CC). But if you honestly wanted to stand out, I’d suggest finding something random that interests you, like sword-swallowing or couture kite making (I’m not sure if there’s such a thing as couture kites, but I’m sure there’s a market for them somewhere)

you know what confuses me somewhat … your willing to grasp at anything related to medicine in order to improve your app for JSU, in order to stand out more, yet your true passion is medicine, not getting into JHU. Usually it would be the passion, medicine, that the person would be willing to do anything to pursue.

I sort of understand though, i think, if it’s true that pursuing your passion of medicine necessarily means trying hard to get into JHU for you. Really, in addition to a passion for medicine you also have a pretty defined picture of what pursuing that passion looks like it seems.

Maybe you could look through the EC’s of people who got denied/accepted to JHU on that subforum to see if you see anything different from the things you are doing, which you think you might like.
