How do I pass Summer Pre-AP Precalculus?

I'm currently enrolled in Pre-AP Precalculus for the summer without having taken Pre-AP Algebra II (I was only in regular). This class is notorious for being the hardest math class available in our school district, and I can see why after having bombed the quiz on the first day of school today. My teacher highly suggests dropping out because of my not taking Pre-AP Algebra II. I can do so by July 19 without it affecting my GPA/transcript. However, I lose out on the $650 my parents spent for this class (no refunds). What is the best option/How do I survive Pre-Cal?

The problem is most likely your math skills, not your math class the previous year. I’d recommend to use online resources to brush up on your algebra skills. The beginning of precalc is mostly algebra review so you better do something quick.

Talk to your parents.
How much input did they have in picking this course?
You have to compare: Losing $$ vs. Doing poorly in the course because you are not prepared vs. working your butt off.
If you decide to go forward, you have to make this class your life…it will be very fast paced. Also you will need to get a tutor.

Agree with consider getting a tutor. If this class will be very fast paced you don’t want to fall behind as it will be difficult to catch back up. Why did you enroll in this class and have you previously done well in all your math classes?

What do your parents say? This sounds like it needs to be a family decision.

Why are you taking this course over the summer instead of during the school year? Were you trying to get onto a more advanced math track? If you drop it would you be taking it in the fall or would you be taking regular precalc instead? Trying to jump tracks can be very hard to do in math. Maybe you aren’t really ready to it. I don’t mean that in a bad way. Not everyone is good at math.
