Hey guys! So I really want to go to UC Berkeley, it’s my dream school. At least, until I saw the price tag that came with it for out of state students. What scholarships (UC Berkeley related or outside) can I receive in order to pay for Cal? $63k + for OOS students A YEAR!!
The big merit exists, but is rare and highly competitive – assume it will be a super-reach even if you have an unweighted 4.0 in the hardest courses you can take and top-end test scores
Drake scholarship for mechanical engineering majors is a full ride.
Regents and Chancellor’s scholarships meet need against FAFSA-based EFC with no student loan or work needed if your parents can pay the FAFSA-based EFC ($2,500 in-state or $25,000 out-of-state if no financial need).
Odds are good you can’t pay for it. No school is a “dream school” if it is unaffordable.
At $63,000 a year, a dream can become a nightmare in a hurry unless your parents are very rich. You need more realistic dreams. There a a lot of very good schools in the US (and also some elsewhere).
If you are a senior and have probably completed your apps, how can this question be asked now?
Generally, most of the bigger scholarships, that cover large tuition and R&B fees come from the universities.
In the case of UCB, the money would come from the State of California taxpayers.
Since you are not a resident, you are not eligible for state funding.
The scholarships that are available are limited and very competitive.
Most run about $2k-$3K which won’t put a dent in your tuition fees.
You would need to get loans for a quarter of a million dollars to attend a California public school.
I agree with the other posters, if you cannot afford it, the school won’t be a dream but, a financial nightmare.
What changed since September 25 when you wrote this…and Stanford and Chicago were your top choices?
Regardless…despite your very nice stats, with the exception of U Wisconsin-Madison…how will you pay for ANY of these colleges? Do you have significant financial need?
Berkeley is a reach for you even for admissions. It’s a reach for instate students…and their acceptances can be very be predictable. In terms of aid…assume you will be full pay.
How much can your family afford? What do you need the net cost to be?
With a 34 ACT, high GPA and high class rank, you might get merit from University of Pittsburgh.
You could also apply to U Minnesota. Do you get reciprocity there?
And you have an excellent instate school U Wisconsin.
What is your intended major?

Are you premed? (And if you are, don’t play a sport)
Berkeley won’t be affordable and you wont get one of their few merit awards. If you are premed, the last thing you should do is go to Calif as an OOS premed.
Frankly, if you are premed, your list isn’t a smart one.
