Me again... So I've been on assist.org a lot lately and can't comprehend how apply to more than one UC. Did they fulfill all the requirements for each of the UCs?? That seems really hard to do. I mean, I want to go to UCLA for psych and am basing my 2 years at my cc on the IGETC and what assist.org tells me. But I would really like to apply to Berkeley and I would be a coin toss between there and UCLA if I were to be accepted ( I hear Cal is tough). So should I make up my mind now and say forget Cal? I don't see how people get all the classes done to even apply?

Many of them should overlap. You have 2-3 years, so it should be enough time. You should also meet with a CC counselor and talk about your plans, if you haven’t already.

Theyre either gunners or they stay at cc for 3 years.

I think most people choose the classes that clear the most pre-reqs at the most schools they want to apply to. Looks like Cal and UCLA both want IGETC, so make sure you get that done. Then just do your best to fit as many pre-reqs as you can.

Also, remember that many pre-req classes can also be used for IGETC.

Thanks guys, I’m definitely going to do the IGETC and try to integrate UCLA’s psych requirements, which seems more straight forward than Berkeley’s anyway. I’ll talk with my counselor too and decide if I should try for a double major in psych and poli sci at UCLA, or spend my time getting UCLA and Cal requirements for psych only.

I’m not familiar with psych, but a lot of time major requirements overlap even if they don’t look like they do.

For example, my major is philosophy, and Berkeley requires 3 specific prereqs- 12a, 25a, 25b. The other UCs (I really don’t care about lol) don’t require these 3, but have general requirements that these 3 could fit. I think UCD and UCLA have requirements like “take 4 philosophy courses and have at least one of them fall under this category…etc etc,” and it just so happens that the Berkeley prereqs fall under those categories. I highly doubt that your major requirements will differ THAT much. I also thought that poli sci had the same 5 major requirements at all UCs, though I could be wrong.

Since you are brand new community college, I would focus on getting the basics out of the way- like intro to psych, intro to gov, international relations, and getting IGETC done. You should be able to fit all of them in in 3 years if you take 3 classes a semester and do summer sessions. Your poly sci and psych classes will actually fulfill a good amount of IGETC.

One day just sit down and write down all the prereqs for UCLA psych and poli sci and also for UCB psych and poli sci. See which ones, if any, over lap, then see which ones can be used for the IGETC. Bam done.

After a quick glance at assist looks like both majors for both schools aren’t that far off from each other and I’m willing to bet they all fold right into IGETC. Figuring out all the specifics just takes a bit of time and dedication.

Thanks Shannon and UCBhopeful, great insights I’ll just have to sit down with assist and my counselor and figure it out. It’s just a little intimidating. But it can’t be that bad. At least I can focus on the basic courses my first semester. But I’ll do some reasearch and plan ahead because if I were to get into UCLA and Cal… jeez, I would be so happy :)
