How do I prepare for Union/AMC interview?

Hi! So I have an interview next week with Albany Medical College...and I'm a little nervous. How should I prepare? For all my normal college interviews, I just browse around the school's website before the interview and come with some questions. I have a feeling I need to prepare more for a med school interview though...

Also what should I wear? Would college interview attire be appropriate? Or something a level up?

Thanks!

congrats on the interview, when were you informed about the next week’s interview, a lot of people on CC are waiting for their interview

I got an email last week sometime, which is pretty quick seeing as I had only sent in the extra amc supplement a week and a half beforehand

I also live somewhat close by(3 hour drive), which might be why I was notified quickly

Union/AMC is a unique program and they really want to know why you fit their leadership in medicine model. I am sure you saw this on the AMC supplemental application you filled out. Expect some ethical questions, this program puts a great emphasis on bioethics and contemporary medical issues such as stem cell research, abortion, euthanasia etc. They want you to take a stance on these issues and be sure to let them know you are knowledgeable about the controversy. Use current events to back up your stance. Ultimately just make them see you are a good fit for their model.

They require you to minor in something other than science and study abroad–so show that you are well-rounded and truly not just a grades person. Play up your leadership and be sure to tell them about your philosophy and opinions.

I’m from NJ about 3 hrs from Union and sent my supplement in two weeks ago, and haven’t heard back, while many CCers have gotten interview and rejection emails. This waiting game is annoying.

Good luck with the interview

application was sent about a month back but no response as yet …

Thanks vbhasin1!! That is really helpful. I will be sure to read up on the latest in stem cell research then…

also, any idea on what appropriate attire is?

You’re welcome thestartingline
-I have some friends who interviewed (in past yrs) for the program, so I know a lot about it

wear a suit (sorry don’t know if your a guy or not)
this is a step up from a college interview attire, its med school, don’t just wear like the pant, shirt, and tie level of attire (again I’m a guy)
you want to make a good impression and that starts with how you dress

when exactly is your interview?

again good luck and be sure to read up on the program and contemporary medical issues, they may mention the healthcare bill and ask your opinion of it, so demonstrate that you know about it
-check out the AMA website that’ll help you with learning about these sports of things

most important thing just be confident and you’ll be fine

Thanks again!!! I am a girl, but from what you say a guy should wear, I can basically get the gist of the female equivalent.

My interview is monday next week…I wouldn’t worry if you haven’t heard yet–in the email they sent me, they said they will be having interview days twice a week all the way into march. I think they just notify you a week and a half in advance.

I really do appreciate the help!!

No problem @ thestartingline, I try to help all I can. Thanks for the information about the interviews, I feel better about the waiting now. let me know how it goes

good luck
