I am in a very tight situation here and I need to save every penny. I am currently living in an apartment with another person and we are going to have to pay gas/electricity/water for the next six weeks and I only have around 363 dollars to spend. The good thing is that the apartment is small, there is no gas, and my housemate and I spend most of our time outside the house.

I am currently using the food bank every other day to get my main source of calories. I also am not buying any textbooks for my summer session. How else do I cut costs and how much do you usually pay for gas/electricity/water every month in a southern californian school where everything is expensive?

Do you have a cell phone? If so try to cut your bill down some. If you have textbooks from previous semesters, sell them on Amazon. I was in a tight situation a few years back, and I sold majority of my textbooks. I think I got back $300-$400 altogether. If you drive people around a lot then you may have to charge them… I think $20 would be fine per person. Look for odd jobs around your neighborhood or look for jobs around your school. I’ve applied to many jobs around campus and I’ve gotten at least 2-3 interviews already and school hasn’t started yet.

Tight, very tight. Try the temp job market. Having to eat off the food bank is no way to live. BTW don’t forget about Utility deposits.

I’ve applied to a bunch of positions already and I haven’t gotten a response yet, though it’s been around 4 days since the applications. The utility and security deposits have already been paid. I don’t have any used textbooks with me.

Check craigslist Jobs - Etc and Gigs sections for short term immediate paying gigs. You can place gigs ads too. Use a throwaway email to keep spam/scams out of your inbox. Read and pay attention to scam warnings page, though.

Isn’t Craigslist kind of sketchy though? That’s what I heard from most of my peers.

Donate plasma. There aren’t the most savory of characters that hang out in those places but its an easy way to make 100 bucks a week.
