How do I show that I am interested in a college?

Some common prompts I see goes along the lines of "What made you choose (insert college)?" How do I write this without sounding like I am glorifying or advertising the college? Do I need to have an extensive knowledge about the college? Or does it focus more on my personal motivation for going to that college? Can I write one generic essay and swap college for each admission? Also, do I have to specifically mention what the college offers for a major when I write about "why I am attracted to a certain major"?

That is a good question. I do think you have to have some good knowledge of the college to write this well. Or knowledge of a particular aspect that really caught your interest. I think you should mesh your personal motivation with why the college fits you and why you fit it as much as possible. This is why the generic essay for this prompt isn’t a good idea.

I don’t see that you have to mention what specific major the college offers but don’t say you are attracted to a business major or an engineering major if the college doesn’t have one. That would be a blunder, and that does happen.

All right, thank you!
