I know my freshman years grades sucked and that has affected my total gpa HOWEVER there is a significant increase in GPA since then..do you think CalTech would consider this growth as an advantage??

My guess is that if you had a good reason why your grades freshman year weren’t so great, your gpa will be fine. What’s more important is how much you demonstrate a passion for math/science in your application (essays, extracurriculars etc.) What sort of science fair projects? What have you done in science Olympiad, your clubs and honor societies?
