How do I start the transferring process?

I just graduated from high school a few days ago and I planned to opt out of the CSU school for a California community college so I can get to my dream school, UCLA. I was just wondering, where do I start? I know that I'm supposed to sign up for classes and I plan to sign up for winter classes because I am going out of the country this summer. So my plan is to take winter, spring, summer classes for next year, then fall classes and I was hoping to get all 60 units within 1 year. I was a good student in high school (accepted to UCSD but slacked off my senior year) so grades aren't really a problem for me except that I mustn't slack off this year. Also for EC, I can't get any internships or joint clubs as I will be working when I am not in class or studying so do colleges care if you only work? I might be able to squeeze in 1 club but I'm not sure.

I know about the IGETC classes I'm supposed to take along with prerequisites for the major I am planning to apply to which is Molecular Biology. But does anyone have any idea on how to plan out classes based on IGETC curriculum. Do I get a counselor to do it for me or am I supposed to do this myself? See this's the part where I am really lost. Also do prerequisites count for the 60 semester units I am supposed to take or are they separate like remedial classes?

Work with the counselor at community college.

The list above provided by 4kidsdad lists the steps (except at d’s cc assessment tests (or waiving them) take place before orientation. Your CC will have orientation workshops which will give detailed information and steps regarding class selection. Also make an appointment with your adviser after starting CC. CC’s usually have forms which you can use to check off your classes (and quickly see which are still needed). Your CC may also use Degree Works, a computer program which tracks all the classes you’ve taken, and will indicate which general ed and major classes are still needed, and it has a “what if” feature, so you can see what your progress will look like if you take specific classes in the future.
