How do I start this essay out?

Okay so I'm applying to a biology program at a state college. I have to write a 250word essay, and the prompt is:

A student-written essay must be included with this application. The student essay is to be typed or neatly and written and not to exceed 250-words. In your essay tell the selection committee why you are interested in attending the 2012 Summer Academy, your hobbies, extracurricular activities and any academic camps you have attended. Please include in your essay what you hope to gain from this experience and how you think it will help you in the future.

I know what I'm going to write about, but I'm lost on how to start it out. Do I just dive right into and say "The reason I want to attend _____ is because....", or should I do something else? Please help.

It’s not wrong to just dive and start with “The reason I want to attend…” it’s just a little dull. 250 words is a pretty extensive essay, you should try to come up with something punchier–an interesting anecdote that fed your interest for example.

You might try writing the guts of the essay first and then come back to the intro once you’ve nailed down your ideas.

Okay so I finished the essay and didn’t dive right into it. Now I have a favor to ask, could anyone read the essay? It is really short and I would really appreciate it.
