How do I tell a school that I enrolled at that I'm not going there?

I'm in a bit of a predicament. I enrolled a month ago at this one school, and I submitted my housing (and I've actually gotten my roommates and stuff...), but then I changed my mind and am now going somewhere else.

How do I actually tell the first school that I'm not going there?

I don’t know, call and tell them you have changed your mind?

Yep. It happens; in fact, there is a term for it–summer melt.

write the admissions department a letter via US mail, not email. “Dear Sirs, I regret to inform you that I will not be attending X this fall. I understand I will forfeit my deposit of admission. Sincerely, Joe”. Add your contact info including phone number. It would also be a good idea to call the housing dept so you can cancel the contract for housing.

They might also respond asking why you’ve changed your mind, so it’d probably be a good idea to include the reason in your letter.

Happened to my s last summer. He simply called the admissions office. The university actually refunded both his housing and admission deposits.

That is why they have waiting lists. Do it immediately and open a spot for someone else.

Write a letter, then fax it to the Office of Admission.
